My recorder is a $79 refurbished job that I bought from a "seconds" outlet. Works fine.
clubsguide Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 hi guys, new to the forum, just bought myself a hitachi 32" lcd for my bedroom without dig tuner. didnt need the tuner as i have foxtel in my bedroom. but now i am in the market for a dvd+hdd recorder that will record my foxtel in high quality and do all the good stuff like play divx etc. i have been told that i should use a cable that converts from the scart of my foxtel box to component and that will give me the highest quality picture out of what the foxtel box offers? if so does anyone know of any good dvd+hdd recorders that take component in and also have component or HDMI output to connect to the lcd tv. any help would be awesome as i have been searching around but cant seem to find one that has what im after though i was expecting that these features would be standard??? thanks in advance guys and gals

I can tell you all the units sold by Coles supermarket have/had this feature, the current 250gig HDD DVDR from Aldi is virtually the same as Coles past model, the mdr5501, and probably has them since the mdr5501 has, although this unit runs a bit hot for me. The current Coles model is the mdr250 and imo a little gem, has component in and out.

I really want to get a HDD DVD recorder but i dont want to sacrifice video quality
techo Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 are you aware of any name brand models that come with the component in support? I don't know of any of the latest name brands with component both ways, I guess it depends on what you consider name brands. However the cheaper HDD DVDRs do not sacrifice video quality, some might be of the opinion they loose functionality and durability but I wouldn't be one of them. Since I consider component as about the best analog video transport bus. I always use the component from a PVR to DVDR component inputs, seems to give slightly better recordings. I only use the component outputs to some VGA converters I knocked up one day for when I want to display on computer monitors
