GazingSouth Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 All, I searched through the very long MS threads as I recall reading somewhere about some of the limitations of the v1.4 firmware. I tried to set an overlapping timer for the same channel tonight.... ie Record Channel 7 from 7:30-8:40, and Channel 7 from 8:30 to 9:40 (to keep the files separate) I get an error message "Same Timer already exists" and won't let me save it. In the end I had to set a timer for 7:30 - 9:40pm. Is there a place we are keeping a track of all the bugs in 1.4 ? Cheers Geoff
GazingSouth Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 Response from OPAC: =========================== set Timer 1 Ch7 (0007) Timer 2 Ch71 (00071) 9 and SBS can not be overlapped. =========================== If I recall correctly this was introduced in 1.4 - can anyone with an older FW installed check this out by trying to set the timers like this: TIMER1: Channel 7, Weekly, Thursday Start: 8:30PM, Duration 1:10 File - "Timer1" TIMER2: Channel 7, Weekly, Thursday Start: 9:30PM, Duration 1:10 File - "Timer2" Do you get an error "Timer already exists" or does it accept the timer? Thanks Geoff

GazingSouth Posted April 10, 2007 Author Posted April 10, 2007 How do I do this for CH9 and SBS then ? Any why could you NOT set a same channel overlapping timer - after all it's 2 seperate events on 2 seperate tuners... shouldn't matter if tuner1 is tuned to channel 7 and tuner 2 is tuned to channel 7 as well..... I am almost 100% sure I used to be able to set these 2 timers in versions prior to 1.4

Unfortunately channels in the 9 and SBS TP's have different contains.

The Toppy (similar machine) has had this 'bug' for years. As mentioned channel 7 and 71 etc. are seen as 'different' channels so you can get around it. On other channels you don't have this option. I believe the reason for the 'bug' is basically just poor coding. Initially it caused big problems as the second timer in this stuation simply failed to fire. At least you get a failed to set warning now. Because you can always just set a timer that covers the whole period, I assume its never got all that far up the priority pole Regards Peter Gillespie
temporary1 Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 I am almost 100% sure I used to be able to set these 2 timers in versions prior to 1.4"If memory serves me right..." you could (sort of) set an overlapping timer in older firmware, but the 2nd timer would not fire until the first one finished. It warned you of a conflict, but let you ignore it. I.e. 730-840 and 830-940 would end up recording 7:30-840 and 840-940.The 1.4 firmware does not allow you to ignore conflicts, so you cant set the timers to "overlap". This isnt a problem until the firmware picks on you and decides there is a conflict when the really really isnt. There is also a bug where the timer padding is not detected in the overlap logic, so you can sort of use this to your advantage by setting a short length and then padding it , but you could never record the _same_ channel simultaneously. Record the whole thing and then cut it... pity they broke the cutting task so it now takes minutes rather than seconds... (apparently it is on the to be fixed list...) I take it you got your unit fixed then Geoff?
temporary1 Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Is there a place we are keeping a track of all the bugs in 1.4 ? Here maybe? I also try to keep a summary list at http://temporary1ms920.googlepages.com/
GazingSouth Posted April 10, 2007 Author Posted April 10, 2007 sort of - it kept missing timers, badly, in 1 week it didn't fire a single timer - OPAC didn't really give much help. What I did was to change the automated upload, to shutdown the PC and leave the MS on - I then sleep the MS with a timer. I then upgraded back to 1.4 and it all seems to be working fine... hasn't missed a timer yet. I think there is a bug in their USB code - if I shut the MS down using the PC, and then power off the PC (so the MS shuts down while it thinks it's stil connected to the PC) it seems to cause problems.
