Scalpel Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 One of our new members is concerned that he has read that the LA32R71BDX Samsung 32" LCD has some sort of problem with HDCP support over HDMI. He cant post a new thread so I have done so. The original posts are quoted below. Anyone able to help? Ta. J. anybody know if the 32" V-Series supports HDCP? And are there any other alternatives?I've been told Samsung and Sony make the best LCD's. Was very close to purchasing the 32inch samsung currently being pushed, but found out it doesnt support HDCP which was a bit of a let down (especially considering my budget) It has an HDMI input, so it will support HDCP. Although these two are not necessarily linked, it would be almost impossible to find examples of where there is a HDMI connector without HDCP support. Previous generation monitors had DVI inputs, some of which did not support HDCP (even when used with a HDMI-DVI connector) Keep in mind, if there is an abscence of digital connections, then HDCP will not be supported (ie Component & RGB) J. BTW, when you say "Was very close to purchasing the 32inch samsung currently being pushed, but found out it doesnt support HDCP which was a bit of a let down" which model was this, and where did you get your information that it doesnt support HDCP? QUOTE(take_no_prisoners @ Apr 9 2007, 01:47 PM) So in most cases it is safe to say that if it has a HDMI input, it supports HDCP? The samsung model was LA32R71BDX. I heard it on the Whirlpool forums. Is HDCP compatability something they usually state in the specifications? I've googled the V-Series 32 and come up with nothing. Perhaps some V-Series owners can help me out? Yes the use of HDMI connectors essentially guarantees HDCP support - there is little advantage (other than carrying sound with the video signal) otherwise of a HDMI link over say component. Certainly some tv's will only carry certain higher resolutions via HDMI (eg Sony BraviaX), but this is not a HDCP limitation. Nor is it a restriction imposed by the component standard, which can carry 1080 resolution. HDCP support is often not stated. And many salespeople dont have a clue what it is either. You do need to be more wary about PC monitors if they only have DVI inputs (see my post above) - but most now have HDMI anyway. J. BTW, was(this) the thread - if so the problem here was not HDCP compatibility, it was trying to use an unsupported resolution via HDMI. The other thing to remember is that if using it as a PC screen (to watch HDCP encrypted material), the video card must support HDCP as well. (A good example of this is the problem faced by the new generation of 30" 2560x1600 screens eg Dell 3007 - the screen is HDCP compatible, but no videocards support HDCP over Dual-link (ie special connector) DVI) That wasn't the particular thread, but I've been told before on there that it's not supported. Would you be able to confirm that for me?(I'm not going to use it as a PC screen, so that's not an issue either)
take_no_prisoners Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Thanks for clearing that up for me. I eventually rang Samsung, and they too confirmed it supports HDCP. I went through with the purchase however i've run into a bit of a brick wall since. Just bought HDMI cables today for my PS3, but I'm getting no output. I've even followed this: http://www.us.playstation.com/SCEARegional...connect_tv.html I'm fine up to step 6. I press source to get to HDMI input and then I get "no signal" followed by "mode not supported". At the moment I'm on the edge and am quite concerned as to why it isn't working. Any tips would be much appreciated!
