Is anyone able to advise whether Free-to-Air digital coverage is available at Mt Buller please.

I tried the reception locator at DBA'S site, but the Buller postcode did not come up.

Thanks, John

John,

Although I'm a fairly regular visitor to Mt Buller, I've never taken any signal measurements there.

Might be something to try before the ski season.

Are you referring to the Mt Buller village, or elsewhere on the mountain?

Where are you currently receiving your analogue signals from?

I know some places are able to receive analogue from Melbourne (due to the altitude).

There are digital translators planned for Mansfield, with ABC and SBS slated for August 2007 and the commercial networks TBA.

Yes, Mt Buller village, just opposite YHA

HMM, will have to look this up. We've just had a new aerial system fitted in the apartment block and I've been asked to get a new TV for ours (part of a Ski Club). Digital broadcasting sounds like it's going to sort itself this year though

Hi,

It's probably unnecessary now but Mt Buller can receive digital TV. I don't have a set top box but a digital USB adapter for my laptop that I plug into the aerial socket and I can receive digital tv fine (except channel 9 which doesn't get picked up at all and is fuzzy when I plug the aerial directly into our TV).

We (St Anton Club) recently had the aerial fixed. Before that reception was pretty bad (that was before I got the receiver).

Hope this helps

Cheers,

Greg

Greg,

Where are you receiving the digital channels from?

Are the networks 7, 9, 10 (from Melbourne)... or Prime WIN and SC TEN? (other regional transmitters)

Hi,

St Anton Club, next door to Ajax (but I'm currently in Wagga for a bit, returning to Buller soon).

The channels, IIRC, are Prime and SC Ten. Oddly enough, using an analogue receiver we can pick up Melbourne Channel 7 the same quality as Prime but I can't pick it up on digital.

And I think the Nine channel is Win.

Some sections of Buller signals can only be reciever via VAST. Snowfall can cause crazy problems with reception. A product worth testing would be Dupont Teflon Spray Snow Treatment Other customers have used buckets of water on their satellite dish, but i'd like to think that there are other products out there that will stop snow build up. Apparently this season there are a stack of aerials that have become ice blocks. Looks like it'll be a buffer season, so I hope to get some skiing in soon.

Example: did a job on mount hotham: the reception was perfect during the other three seasons but as soon as the snow came several channels went nuts before the aerial became ice. Vast has been resiliant so far and cofdm dvb-t modulation is in use.

Andrew,

VAST uses DVB-S2 modulation which is not COFDM which is only used for terrestrial transmissions.

VAST will give the southern versions of Imparja, GEM, GO!, Southern Cross Central 7two, 7mate, and TEN, 11 and One, all ABC and SBS programs.

News comes from either Sydney or Melbourne depending on the network.

It would appear that there is no viable reliable digital terrestrial signals at the moment.

I disagree. Many of the chalets on Mt Buller already receive TV from either Mt Major or Wodonga/Upper Murray. And according to the myswitch coverage map, reception of digital tv should be ok in most locations in the village if you're on the northside of the ridge.

Ice build up on terrestrial antennas can be a problem in winter though.

I saw a product made by dupont a teflon based spray for snow. Aluminium and ice are bestest of buddies. It's a little late for putting that sort of gear on the antenna though.

We took the output of VAST boxes and created a COFDM stream
