KRiSX Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Hey everyone... i am really having problems deciding what to get for my next tv... things i want... 46" size 1080p (for ps3 and 360) as you can see... i'm not being too picky... 2 tv's i'm looking at are the 46" Sony Bravia X Series and the soon to be released 46" Samsung (LN46M81BDX)... now i have no idea when the new samsung is coming out... and to be honest i most likely would have the sony right now if i could of gotten one, but JB didn't have stock and i'll have to wait until the 2nd of may to buy from them... or i can go somewhere else that i know will have 10 in stock this week... anyways... the prices are around the same... Sony $4500-$4600... Samsung $4600-$4700... sony pro's... * it looks fantastic (i love the silver and clear look) * the picture and colour quality is the best (currnet samsung is VERY close) sony con's... * all the issues i've heard of with the clouding (that no one in the shops knows about... either that or they play dumb) * 1080p only over HDMI (i need it over component OR vga for the 360) * 1 year warranty samsung pro's... * 1080p over all inputs (vga, hdmi, component) * hdmi 1.3 (even tho i don't think i need it) * 3 year warranty samsung con's... * it looks very similar to my current tv... 32" samsung... * i haven't seen it with anything on the screen * i don't know when i'm gonna get it (late april-late may is the guess) with all that ... what should i do?? i need someone to guide me in the right direction... what will i be happy to blow up to $4700 on?? please help! cheers

There's no way the Samsung is the same price as the Bravia X, I'd be hoping it would be about $1000 cheaper within a few weeks, at this new price it would slaugher the X series sales.
KRiSX Posted April 10, 2007 Author Posted April 10, 2007 well the new samsung is much better then the current one from what i've seen... with more features and stuff so the price will be a bit more
pgdownload Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 If the price is right I'd say just grab the Sony. Both the TVs you mentioned are top of the line and provide an excellent PQ. You can always get a 2 year extended waranty if you want. TV technology is starting to get incremental again in the improvements each new model brings out. Unless a new model is out next week I'd be looking at what's available. Personally I think 1080p is over rated and its definately we'll over priced at the moment. I'd be looking to save a $1000+ and go the Sony V series but that's just me . Regards Peter Gillespie
sunny812 Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 I'm in the same situation too, but Im going to wait for the new Samsungs mainly due to the ability to display 1080p content through other inputs apart from HDMI...
Emblurr Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 (edited) Same boat.(well similar boat) was either the 40" x series bravia for $3650 or the 46" samsung (not the newest model) for $3500. Opted to wait as i don't need it right yet. Edited April 10, 2007 by Emblurr
KRiSX Posted April 10, 2007 Author Posted April 10, 2007 well problem is that i will be having to wait for the new sammy or the sony it seems... places are just running out of stock and it won't be until late april/early may till the stock is in... and that is around the same time the new samsung comes out. i have considered the sony v series... and it would save me $$$'s... but i already have a 720p screen and the look of it isn't as nice as the x or the sammy... lol
sillygit Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Overall I'm very happy with my Current/End of Line 46" 1080p Samsung. The picture quality is amazing when running 1080p content, but; * Make sure Samsung have fixed all the 'Just Scan' rubbish. Having to constantly change aspect ratios to avoid over scan issues is a pain (why they don't default to 'Just Scan' when at 1080p is beyond me)... * 1080p looks amazing but you'll get 'over scan' issues at 720p (for example, a lot of games for the ps3 run at 720p).

That's what my concern was....I know all the 1080p stuff looks fantastic but I need the standard definition stuff not to get screwed up

(sorry for the n00b q) can it be adjusted?? cause thats a bit of a concern
KRiSX Posted April 10, 2007 Author Posted April 10, 2007 mmmm i just did a bit of a comparrison to a dvd movie vs a bluray movie on my 720p/1080i 32" samsung.. and i couldn't really tell much of a difference (movie was gone in 60 seconds fyi)... makes me think ... do i need 1080p... but then again... 46" is much bigger then 32"...
KRiSX Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 well i've ruled out the V series sony due to lack of inputs... it just wouldn't suit what i need...
