lojo1 Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 From Lojo1 I had Lg's service agent come out and fix the Ch 9 freeze up on my set (LG 42PC1DG). That seems to have fixed that problem. However, there are four more problems with the set. The service agent says they will be flat out for the next two months fixing the freeze up issues and they can't guarantee when they will fix the set or how long it will take ( presuming it is fixable. Sent an email to lg on the above and reported the following faults: Favourite settings on Ch 7 SD & HD constantly dropping out. Sound does not always come on when set is turned on. Have to change channels to get sound. After that channel changes result in sound delays up to 10 seconds. Sound being lost for several seconds when lights or power points switched on and off. Lips out of sync with sound from time to time. LG came back and blamed it all on the tv broadcasts. (They have to be joking) Have sent another email back to their customer service manager saying their reply and service is not up to scratch. Akso told them if they can't get problems permanently fixed in reasonable time to replace the set. Also told them I have a five year old rear projection LG receiver running through a SD Mext Wave set top box and it has never had a problem nor does it have any of the above issues occuring on our new set. Anyone else out there having problems with their 42PC1DG integrated HD LG tv? Or are you having problems getting service from their authorised agents?

Hi Lojo1, My 2 year old bought one of these LG sets for his mum's mothers day! We are very happy with the set and the picture and sound is great, but I can definately agree with you that the losing channel 7 from the favorites list is VERY annoying. The whole channel list and favorites list is not very well thought out. I have just been inputing the channel manually with the numeric keypad! My set also had a delay of around 5 seconds occasionally before the sound kicks in. Surely it would just be a basic firmware upgrade to change the channel list problem that would make this a fantastic TV! I have had no problems with channel 9 freezing up. Anyway thats my experience with this set. Cheers, Simon.
nightbreed Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 LG have had ALOT of issues with their tuner intergrated panels of late. At the end of the day, LG is still "Lucky Goldstar"
digitaladvisor Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 IMHO............... The many issues encountered by the internal tuner suggest a MIXTURE. 1. Firmware ....... this is the software and how it organises channels etc. 2. Your CABLING - if it is old - thin, leakage induction into cabling electrical wiring switches - then of course things are GOING FREEZE play up. Choppy sound/ chirps/ drop out SUGGEST BORDER LINE RECEPTION. 3. If you have PAL sockets - NASTY NASTY. Replace them with "F" connector wall plates!!!! 4. If you are marginal reception - your area is fringe or in a difficult reception area then if any of the above HAS not been checked out then do so. DIGITAL TV BROADCASTING is NOT analogue TV Broadcasting or simply a better picture quality. DVB-T broadcasts PACKETS of data that MUST be within tolerances for BIT ERROR CORRECTION. Yes- just like COMPUTER data bits. And we all know what happens if plugs or cables for computers are not quite right or old. DA

DA I agree, I think alot of the problems come down to the aerial and or cabling. These intergrated plasmas and LCDs are probably the first introduction of digital TV to alot of people and they are still getting use to glitches and signal problems. But a seemingly simple user interface item like being able to organise channels there isn't much excuse for stuffing that up!
Hussla Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Well I own an LG integrated set, my sister has an identical one. On top of that I have personally sold ALOT....aside from the CH.9 issues I can say from personal experience that none of the units i've had to deal with had issues. At the end LG hasnt been the only ones to have dramas with integrated tuners. Either way many problems simply have to do with people having **** antenna setups, and lets not forget this is still fairly new technology so bugs are an unfortunate reality. If you want to see a **** DTV product experience the Toshiba HDDj35 puts any dodgy LG to shame.
RXII Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Hi, Does anyone know if there is a firmware update to cure the missing "Favourites" channels? This is driving me and my wife insane! I had better get onto LG........stay tuned! Cheers, Simon.
Guest jon10210 Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Hmmm interesting i had LG in my mind for later in the year.. So for examble i think this is how it works, If your LG mdoel plasma was created lets say OCT 2006 then they would of made a few thousands or more and be send all over the world in OCT 06. Today you went to a shop you want this model by LG youhave to remember that the one they going to give you (new) in the box will be the ones that was shiped in OCT .. NOV or anytime within march 2007. LG where alerted the issue in March 2007 i think if im not wrong... LG may had been alittle too late to stop all shipings to all thse models been sent because LG wasnt aware of the issue back then until march 2007. So the problem with this now for a costumer is if your thinking of buying any LG mdoels that where created in 2006 and you brought it today ... the dealer at the shop will be giving you a brand new LG that was been waiting at the back for someone to buy it... the model u got was not made just yesturday or this year.... more like late last year... when LG wasnt aware the issue of the problem LG plasmas.. If you are lucky and they gave you a new one seating at the back the same model but created after march 2007 then you wont be getting issues because LG would of alerted all LG panels to be updated after march.. But your chance of buying any of these late last year models means you might be getting some now and then problems with your new screen. I really dont no... I wouldnt no how the system goes.. I always thought that if i was to created a brand new style plasma from LG today in june i would of made 1 million of them and spread them around the world and thats it i wont make any more or any updates because i made 1 million and now im thinking of a new mdoel instead..... Unless they do keep on makingt he same model now and later... if they do they would of fix these issues. Aniways at this stage samsung is in my mind.. between LG and Samsung for later in the year. p.s Just remember not only this model but many more on LG.. plasmas.. LCDtvs so on.. Check out the LG website for (news) it should be there about the issue of LG. http://au.lge.com/about/press.do?action=re...leases_read.jsp
Mining Man Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 ~If you want to see a **** DTV product experience the Toshiba HDDj35 puts any dodgy LG to shame. If I may Chris: If you want to see a brilliant DTV product specification, experience the Toshiba HDD-J35 (2 years ago). If you want to see a poor DTV product implementation, experience any HD PVR (even now!!). The J35 isn't without peer. Even with 2 years extra development time, the almighty Topfield isn't exactly setting the world on fire...
Nevyn72 Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Even with 2 years extra development time, the almighty Topfield isn't exactly setting the world on fire... Which is probably just as well, bursting into flames is just about the only way the 7000 hasn't failed yet!
LeeH Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Received my Choice magazine (July 2007) today, and was interested to see it reviewed 107cm tvs, and the LG 42PC1DG-AA got top rating.... Lee

He said he hadn't heard anything about the favourite channels dissappearing or the lack of sound when the channels are changed, nor could he help me fix it. All he had was a laptop with him and all he does is update firmware issues. I have now gotten use to just typing in the channel I want and change it up and down a channel to get sound. Other than these problems I am very happy with the set, the picture and sound are fantastic. Cheers, Simon.
