mossy1503559706 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Does anyone have a report on the 46" V Series and if so, is the Clouding Issue on the X series also an issue on the current V series panels? Any reports to date? The 46" V series looks very nice in the shop, and I guess the price is going to fall further now with newer models coming out. Any known problems at all? Mossy
esquolax Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 I am yet to see the cloudy affect on the v series lcd's. i have certainly seen it on the x's, even in store its noticable.. the 46v is an awesome screen, go for it
Protagonist Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Hi, whats the cheapest price for the mentioned 46" V?
mossy1503559706 Posted April 8, 2007 Author Posted April 8, 2007 Shopbot shows its around $3500 but interesting to hear if anyone has got this in a larger retail outlet?
MELso Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 No clouding on my 40" V (unlike the equivalent Samsung R-series)...
Protagonist Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Any other issues/flaws related to this screen? About to pull the trigger next week, provided price is right. If I feed a 1080p source, what would happen, since the panel will only support up to 1080i? PS3/Xbox 360 should be orgasmic on this?
MELso Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 PS3 and 360 should output 1080i nicely. Obviously won't accept a 1080p24 input, and the range of video inputs is crap (at least on the 40"), but otherwise a good set if you're not bothered by 1080 resolution...
Protagonist Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 So there will be no down converting if I feed it a 1080p signal? If so, YIKES!
MELso Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 So there will be no down converting if I feed it a 1080p signal? If so, YIKES! It will downconvert a 1080p signal to 1080i, and then upscaled again to 1080p. However, the scaler in the V series will do so without losing picture information...
Schumi5 Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 What prices have people been gettin on the 40inch model? KLD40V2000, went looking today and prices ranges newhere fron 2899-3199. anyone been able to get any better?
Protagonist Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 It will downconvert a 1080p signal to 1080i, and then upscaled again to 1080p. However, the scaler in the V series will do so without losing picture information... I LOVE YOU surroundfan! As long as I can feed a 1080p signal, and it plays down converted, I am happy.
KRiSX Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 I LOVE YOU surroundfan! As long as I can feed a 1080p signal, and it plays down converted, I am happy. can you explain to me why thats such a good thing... sorry for sounding like a n00b... but i'm currently trying to decide what to get and was going to go for a 46" 1080p panel, but have started thinking to myself do i really need that!?! i use 360 and PS3 quite a lot! so i want it to look the best it can
MELso Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Sorry - to clarify a 1080p source is downscaled from 1080p to 1080i by your player, before being upscaled to 1080p and then rescaled to 1366x768p by the TV. However, there is no loss of information going from 1080p to 1080i and back using the scaler in the Sony (the perils of posting late at night!). Unless you sit close enough, getting a 1080p is not going to be of much benefit compared to the 768p screen. Personally, I'd hold off for a month or two until the new Bravia X series models arrive - there could be deals on the old models and/or fixes for clouding on the new ones.

KLD40V2000, went looking today and prices ranges newhere fron 2899-3199. anyone been able to get any better? I saw the 40" V-series yesterday at Good Guys Rockdale for $2900 on the ticket, I was offered $2700 with a simple "whats your best price?"
DeepUnder Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 sorry if this has been asked but is there any major difference between the X and the V series Thanks
KRiSX Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 one does 1080p and the other doesn't... thats my understanding of it (X does 1080p and V is only 720p... just to be clear)
Protagonist Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Just got this LCD for $3500 @ HN without extended warranty. Ext Wty was another $399. Was that a good price? Also, cant seem to pickup SBS. This is an issue with signal strength?
Protagonist Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Hi All, Managed to get 7 & SBS now after swapping cables. Just wondering, is HD suppose to look crap really close, and look normal from 3 - 3.5 meters away? Also, I have heard that with Digital tranmission, there is a certain point where you will not recieve a signal. Say its 80% minimum to recieve Digital. If I fall below, I will get no signal..anything 80 and above, I get a signal. Just wondering, is there any difference in picture quality between a signal of 80%, and 90+%?
Gutty Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 X does 1080p and V is only 720p... just to be clear) 768p.... but yeah.
Gutty Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Just wondering, is HD suppose to look crap really close, and look normal from 3 - 3.5 meters away? Umm, not that i know of. If i get signal, it just generally looks good.
llsTixll Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 My mate has a 40" V Series and from the XBOX360, it doesn't do 1080p over component. Anyone know if it does 1080p over VGA?
croquet king Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Just picked up the 40" V series with 5 yr warranty for $2800.

The 360 does 1080p over VGA and component as far as I know however I dont think any Sony set will accept 1080p from anything other than HDMI source
Gutty Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Just picked up the 40" V series with 5 yr warranty for $2800. Not bad !!!
Cobba Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 (edited) Just picked up the 40" V series with 5 yr warranty for $2800. If only I'd held off buying a little longer. Seems prices have dropped another $400 since I bought the 40" V series at the start of January. Been really happy with the set except for the 4 weeks I was without it. After 3 months one of the backlights went in the set and parts had to come from overseas. Ended up with a new screen but I wasn't happy with the 4 week wait for it to be repaired and get it back. I'm in the country so had to do the 130 km trip myself to get it to and from the repairers. I argued just replace it with a new set since it was going to take so long, but got nowhere. As some sort of consolation, Sony gave me a $50 voucher to be used within 3 months to buy through Sony Direct. Woot Edited May 25, 2007 by Cobba
