Mannah Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Hey guys, Just came across an advertisement for some LP Morgan screens called the "Noir" series, has anyone actually seen one in action? Sure, the idea is sound and the flash impressive, but I was just wondering if anyone had viewed one. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go here http://www.lpmorgan.com.au/noir/ They claim double the brightness and TEN times the contrast ratio, probably if viewed in a pure black room, as opposed to the day time scenarios they are suggesting, but interesting none the less. I wonder if there is any sacrifice to image quality... Cheers

Mannah Posted April 7, 2007 Author Posted April 7, 2007 Dunno about the Sony one, but I did just find an American company with a similar product http://www.screeninnovations.com/
Samhain Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Dunno about the Sony one, but I did just find an American company with a similar product http://www.screeninnovations.com/ pretty sure the screen inovations product is a rebadge of the DNP superNova which is exactly what the Noir is on the aus market. If you arein melbourne, drop into any Big Picture People store and you will see them on display with average every day projectors, in bright lighting conditions. They work great, though certainly not as good as a plasma... but a hell of a lot cheaper if you want a big screen in bright lighting. Sony's black screen was removed from market due to heavy metals (Lead I think).
Muzzer Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 I saw this screen at the HIA Home show in Melbourne yesterday. They had an 84" screen that had 1/3rd of the screen covered in conventional screen material just for comparison purposes. It certainly looks great.
Highjinx Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Sony's black screen was removed from market due to heavy metals (Lead I think). Sony's original "Chromavue" is still available acording to Amazon. ChromaVue My understanding is that it was uneconomical to produce in sizes larger than 80" hence the low key push as the market was not large enough. There is a portable version called "DynaClear" 80"s not a problem for a portable. DynaClear

Highjinx Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 If uneconomical how come other companies can make em? I understand the manufacturing process of ChromaVue is different to the DNP version. DNP's maunfacturing tech/process for larger sizes must be cost effective.

Yeah the way I figure it, is if the screen is as good quality as a normal white screen, why wouldn't you buy one of these screens? Price I am guessing? Unfortunately I am in Sydney, but I believe there are a few stockists up here too, Clive Peters at Auburn for example. Sony's black screen was removed from market due to heavy metals (Lead I think). Hahaha thats a worry
AZT Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 When I was researching my screen purchase I saw one of these at the Bose Shop in Neutral Bay. The guys there were very upfront and said for what you get its just not worth the bux. about $8.5K to be precise and way out of my bracket.

Is that for the Noir screen or the Sony screen you are talking about? And in what size screen?
willk Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 If I was going to pay that money, I might as well get myself a new projector with a decent light output. Or stick with the same projector and have all the window blinds motorised, etc. Or spend that money on a big LCD/plasma screen to use in the day and the projector with a normal screen at night.
joz2 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Depending on the size they range from about +/- around 5K,they are a Euro concept with the screens inported by Morgan and marketed by them,Morgan add the frames and logo. The BPP has them on display.Yes you can get a huge pic for under $8k inc a PJ, but the PQ quality is not as good as a plasma. EDIT:the PQ may be PJ quality dependant,so if you had to pay $6k+ on a PJ and $5k+ for the screen.IMO pay a few K more and get a 65" plasma. At least you couled watch it under more difficult light conditions.

If I recall correctly the 84" size is 5k then it goes up from there. I think the 90" ver is only a few hundred more. Yes PQ is dependent on the PJ - though you do need a bright PJ also - so the better image and bright image usually does not go hand in hand. For those who are picky about PQ, this is not for u for daytime viewing, though for those who just want a nice enough image thats bloody big and bright and comparitively cheap, coupled with something like an Epson TW600 or above on dynamic, it's a nice cheap option compared to a much smaller plasma from LG.
joz2 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Did I mention that they are damm heavy, not your average PJ screen.

They are priced from $2849 for a 45 inch then upto 10K for a 120 inch. The 92 inch was about 7.5K last time I looked.... they may have come down lately.....
