How many radio channels can any one (digital) MUX carry? Since most folk out of town get very noisy ABC936 on AM why can't it be also transmitted on digital TV?

Clipper,

Check to see if you have a local FM repeater. ABC Reception. If you click on the the location names you will get coverage area maps.

If you are in a blue area then an outdoor FM antenna may be required Analog FM reception, What to use if you have a digital TV antenna or perhaps you can use your existing older TV antenna. All radio stations in Hobart are FM except ABC local radio, Radio National and NewsRadio.

The only radio programs on the ABC Digital TV signal are dig and Jazz which are also on line on the ABC Website. There is no room for any more.

If FM is not possible then post again, and I will help with improving AM reception.

Capacity could be found. At different times DiG Country and ABC Newsradio were also to be carried apparently. The main thing stopping carriage of ABC Local Radio is the switching equipment required. If Tasmanians got anything, it would be the Hobart station statewide.

Sufficient lobbying could bring a policy change.

matturn,

I agree with your coverage argument, however the more audio channels you put on the poorer is the digital pictures, particularly if large areas of the picture are moving.

Digital radio will start in Hobart on 1st January 2009, you are better off lobbying for ABC local radio to be one of the programs in that mux. A band 3 vertically polarised antenna can then be used for fringe area reception.
