ozgal
Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone has found affordable (say between $400-$600) lowline stands for the sxrd 70". We are actually after a 2.0M stand to fit dimensions of our room (up to maximum 2.1M) and I've read Dr Smith's advice about tight verticle viewing angle and mentioned it (in the sxrd owner's thread - Page 73). Dr Smith's stand is 40cm high. I'm not seeing many lowline units that size so am wondering if there is an acceptable range, say, perhaps 40cm to 60cm. I'm located just outside Melbourne CBD and need to find a lowline stand asap - ready for delivery of 70 incher after Easter (Thurs 12.4.07 or Frid 13.4.07). We checked out HN off Nepean Highway (near Southland) and they had one that would be okay but was not the best looking I've ever seen - think it was called the Prima - laminated in a dark woodgrain colour for $435.00. They had very few others that were 2M - most were 1.5M or 1.8M - and were too expensive or looked like they would chip and look shabby very quickly. Yeah, yeah, I know....I'm being picky...but that's my job...goes with being the only female in the household. We WAF's have our standards to uphold! I'm hoping you guys might be able to suggest a few places. Next on my list will be Myer, David Jones, Freedom Furniture, Fantatsic Furniture (but I'm a bit worried if their stuff is strong enough as it is made of hollow core wood). I've read the specs of the 70" and it says weight is 73kg...but I've been told it's less than that? IF anyone can clarify this that would also be good. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions. Happy Easter. ozgal
drsmith
The 70" weighs 73kg and the base is 111cm wide and 55cm deep. The Sony stand is painfully overpriced but can be haggled down considerably.

Owen
The 70” base will sit on a 500mm deep stand with mm’s to spare. I purchased this simple glass and steel stand that is 400mm high and on casters. http://www.easybuy.com.au/products.htm?p=T...ndex=1&sb=0 $380 cash. Hi Owen, Nice stand! Looks very classy (tempted to say glassy, but not many people find my jokes funny....oh, well, couldn't resist!). One question though. I thought with the 70" being 1.885 wide, I'd need a stand at least that width or a little more, hence, my figure of 2M. Also, our stumps beneath the house need replacing and as a result when our dogs (border collie and a collie X) run past the T.V. area the floor shakes. Also happens when heavy footed people stomp past. That's another reason I was thinking the 2M might offer a stable base for the 70 incher. Any chance you care to attach a piccy of yours on the stand so I can check out the aesthetics? Cheers and thanks for the link. ozgal
wixy1503559655
Ikea have some decent stands. I'm using the Oppli which bears the weight of my 90kg crt just fine.
Guest
I was just in Freedom recently and they have some fairly low units that look ok. Nicer than Ikea IMO. try Criterion as well, they have a fair range but tend to be a bit pricier but good quality and quite sturdy

peep
I bought the sony stand with my 70sxrd,it is pricey i suppose, but now that i have it i think it is the way to go. It looks great, the tv fits into a mould on top, there is a tie belt on the rear to make sure it does not tip over,it is the perfect height(around 400mm)and the shelf is big enough for a big centre speaker(i have a large b&w in mine)and it is well built, cheers, peep. O-3
Well I don't know about affordable but I have found some decent sites for lowlines. ATM my SXRD is balanced precariously on what I have, I'm still undecided on a decent stand. http://www.bluegumjoinery.com.au/ http://www.ozdesignfurniture.com.au/Produc...=796&page=1 There was another good site but I can't find it right now, maybe google "lowline" and see what you get, I remember only finding 3 good sites . croops
Try Going Going Gone on Victoria Street Abbotsford... click the link in my sig to see the stand I got from there. Up the road are some other very nice stands from Oriental Express... Asian inspired furniture that's very sturdy if that tickles ya fancy. Or else you could just go down the road to Freedom and Ikea in Victoria Gardens... and then there are 2-3 more large furniture stores next to Vic Gardens on Burnley...all these shops are within 1km of each other making it easy to compare in the 1 arvo. Cheers, ozgal NB Criterion can be ordered from anywhere, they also have a website to view the range. Not many stores keep more than a couple units usually http://www.criterionfurniture.com/index.asp?country=AUS Check their US560 model - looks a lot like a sony SXRD sitting on it in their display pic. I'm probably going to buy their EH975 model. I like the central shelf where the center speaker can go. Not a lot of units seem to have a centered cavity (if I can ever work through my plasma vs LCD internal struggle that is)

I have jusr re-checked the depth of the base of the 70" and can confirm that at it's maximum depth (in the middle) it is between 540 and 545mm deep. It might be worth some further explantion regarding the structure of the base as to how this can fit on a 500mm deep stand with mm to spare. I can't see underneath mine as my stand does not have a glass top.
Owen
The base of the TV has little rubber feet. These will sit on a 500mm deep stand (70”), but the front or the base will overhang the stand by about 10mm. Not a biggy as you would only be able to see the small overhang from the side. drsmith
Owen, I know the specifications state 500mm depth for that stand, but have you got the tape measure out and measured it. In only the front of the base overhangs be 10mm it must be a shade deeper than 500mm or the rear of the SXRD must overhang a bit as well.

I've been talking to the guys at the Bluegum joinery and they've been fantastic. Really helpful (although I think I'm driving them crazy with my indecision !). They are probably a little on the pricey side as all materials and labour are local so they can't compete with the cheap imports, but they do give you the option of customising the cabinet to whatever you want. Another place that does custom cabinets is http://www.cibodesign.com.au/audiovisual.html I've spoken to Matt on the phone and he's been really helpful, but again it's not cheap... I only have $1k to spend, anybody know of a Perth based a/v cabinet maker? I can't find ready made ones under 50cm height Hi Webmal, This one's dimensions are 200w 60d 51h for $1,199.00, available in Walnut or White. At least it's close to the size you are after but the price is above 1K . http://www.ozdesignfurniture.com.au/Produc...px?product=1602 This one might fit the bill, size and price wise. Entertainment unit 200w 55d 44h $429.00, Chocolate, Black, White or Oak http://www.ozdesignfurniture.com.au/Produc...px?product=1636 And here's another to add to the pick: Entertainment unit 210w 60d 51h $899.00, in White or Chocolate - http://www.ozdesignfurniture.com.au/Produc...px?product=1649 Good luck hunting - there are a few pages of units on the Ozdesign site - you might find something. You mention you are in Perth - from what I can tell Ozdesign is only in NSW, VIC, QLD and ACT. Might be worth giving them a ring though. P.S. I just clicked on instore promotions and there is a 10% off everything (there's probably small print somewhere that excludes things, but I could not find it). It starts Saturday 7th - I think I will take a look as there some units that will suit my situation here. Cheers, ozgal

MikeAusDTV
The IKEA Bonde is narrower than the 70" but it can take 100kg. I really like the way you can tilt down a door that hides everything on the shelves. It's 144cm wide, 60cm deep and 47cm high and costs $379. It's available in White or in Birch http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/serv...Number=90086805 You can also get matching cabinets and accessories like glass doors http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/serv...chapterId=15910 http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/serv...chapterId=15909
