That should read 'Austar CEO talks up the worth of his company in order to boost the price the mystery potential purchaser is likely to pay'.

Austar and another party have begun organising a press conference for May 1 in Sydney. The other party is Foxtel, and it will be to announce a purchase and subsequent subscriber transition.

A quote from:

If so, could mean an eventual change in Austar encryption and perhaps that the Mystar will not eventuate. IQ anyone?:-)

Until the 1st rolls around and we find Austar bouncing up and down on Foxtel's lap while calling it mummy, its just another rumour as far as I'm concerned.

Remember knowitfirst (and posters on a certain forum) has predicted (repeatedly) that Austar was changing to NDS over the past few years. So by now, you'd imagine that all of Austar's boxes should have videoguard cards slotted into them (of course they don't).

Time will tell.

Hehe put your own spin on what John Porter had to say, sure sounds like sales spiel to me.

If Foxtel buy out Austar (and that makes good business sense for them), I can't see them switching off irdeto for at least a couple of years. It takes time and money to re-issue boxes to existing subscribers.

Me either!

Couldn't see them spending that much money really, then spending more on the boxes, and cards, and encryption, and the money already spent on the Mystar????? Not good business sense.

Anyway, who said it was Foxtel. It maybe another player?

Keep Guessing people. Basically, No one has any idea!

I'm using Austar with a 2.06B CAM in my PC with a DVB-S card. Last year I had to update my CAM to a new firmware using a laptop - works fine now.

The big problem I have with the PC is changing channels. It's painfully slow (about 10 seconds) and occasionally it doesn't change at all and results in a black screen. Does this sort of thing happen with the standalone units? My dad owns a Topfield 5000. Do all TF5000s do DVB-S and can accept CAMs ?? I've never looked at his to see if it has a slot.

What software are you using to view? I use MyTheatre with my card and channel changes are <2 sec (the same as an average set top box)
