just bought a sony hd500 yesterday from good ol' jb, got it set up and working fine, butttt......

i looked through these forums and it sounds like having too strong a signal can be an issue with STBs? analog reception was fantastic... even strong enough to pick up all the wollongong channels (which actually look better than the sydney channels) but my STB at first failed to pick up ch9 sydney, and after not very long, 7HD failed to pick up any signal... so i did a re-scan and now there is no channel 7 or 9 at all! (yet i can recieve PRIME and all its channels)

so yeah pretty much from reading other posts it sounds like i need an attenuator, can anyone confirm this please? also how would i go about getting one?

thanks

Jaycar CAT. NO. LT3050 $9.50

Variable Attenuator

May reduce ghosting in some cases. In certain situations you can actually receive too much TV signal. This attenuator (signal reducer) goes in line and has a variable control. Supplied with two PAL sockets, maximum attenuation is 20dB.

Also have a look at this post in the Toppy 7000 HD PVR thread for a detailed description of the problem and determine if you are indeed suffering from overload.

blackcherry,

It would help if you said where you are.

IF your signal levels are too high, yes, an attenuator is the answer.

As mentioned in previous posts, without knowing exactly what your signal levels are, it's impossible to advise exactly what you require, however, a handy one to try is the variable type.

Apart from Jaycar (possibly DSE) specialist TV antenna installers and suppliers like Lacey's TV and DJ Coulter stock them.
