Denon Dvd-1730 Or Nad T-524?

Recommended Posts

I know the Denon seems to be pushed by several shops I have visited and it has the up scaling feature

but NAD were always a fine product as well

both similarly priced

Any views appreciated

Not familiar with the NAD you are talking about (but yes, usually great products). Don't let the upscaling feature of the DVD-1730 be too much of a selling point as I don't think it will provide much more than a bit of placebo effect (especially if the scaler in your display is equivalent in quality). I opted for the 1930 with Faroudja and even then the upscaling (although nice) is still quite subtle. Any chance you can have a look at both of them in action? May help make up your mind. As will which one you would prefer sitting in your cabinet.

Yes I should be able to get a demo

any idea whether these units play burnt DVD-R DL discs?

some sites say they play divx and some dont mention it

thanks for reply

Well my DVD-1930 plays both +R and -R DL discs so it might not be too much of a stretch to assume the 1730 is the same. Why not give them a try when you demo?
