Felix..
Anyone else pumped about the US Masters from Augusta being broadcast in HD this weekend? Is this the first time an international sports event has been shown in HD here? Also is it likely to be native 1080i source or a convert job from 720p? TEN is definitely taking the lead when it comes to HD sports broadcasts. Hopefully that continues and some of their rivals follow that lead. Felix..
It will be native 1080i. Cool! Just setting the PVR now. I'm keen but not that keen to get up at 3:45am on a Good Friday.
Neon Kitten
Cool! Just setting the PVR now. I'm keen but not that keen to get up at 3:45am on a Good Friday. Ah, the advantages of finishing work at 5am on Good Friday If you're a casual golf fan, being a nightclub DJ does have its benefits
mrplou
this is actually worth buying a HD pvr for. biggest sporting event of the year for me
Gremlin
I'm hoping us regionals get this one in HD as well. I think we will as there are no state restrictions with this event as there are with the AFL.
nexx
Although I dont think even HD will make me want to watch this. Two thumbs up to TEN for doing so.
Greebs
I think I'm way behind the times here, but when did 10 take over the Masters - can really only remember it being on 9 previously.
Sambo90
Oh my, will indeed be taping it just to have a look(not a golf fan, can't help admire tiger though:P), and post some caps of course! EDIT- what are chances of 5.1? nearly everything in US is 5.1, and is this LIVE HD?
Felix..
....and is this LIVE HD? Augusta, Georgia being exactly 12 hours behind Perth time that would make for a 3:45pm local start if it were to be live HD. In fact the US TV times acording to the Official Masters website are 4-7pm EST so it should be live! http://www.masters.org/en_US/about/tvsched.html Tiger and Baddeley are scheduled to tee off at around 2pm http://www.masters.org/en_US/scores/pairings/index.html

kootaberra
It will be native 1080i. Anthonysimilion, the Aust feed will be a 60hz to 50hz conversion, which will be a little softer, like Letterman, West Wing.

If it's to the standard of Letterman, it definitely beats SD 4:3 that we've been used to.
Sambo90
This should be really awesome, if it's anything quality wise like the golf footage on the NINE HD loop then we are in for a treat. PS - On sports tonight Wednesday they had a reporter over in Augusta, and at the end he said it will be the first time the masters is screened on TEN and the first international sport shown in High Definition in Australia. LBM
It is fairly early, I might record it and have a look later rather than wait up for it to start. 5am might have been alright but for Golf, there is no way I would wait any longer.

golfaholic
This is the way sport should be broadcast. I'll be calling 10 to congratulate them and I'd encourage anyone else enjoying the telecast to do the same. Some points to note.. - looks like they're going to take basically the whole feed from CBS/USA Network and only cross to Leigh Diffey or back to Tim Webster in the studio when CBS is on an ad break - thankfully, the Masters has only a few minutes of adverts per hour (as stipulated by the Augusta National GC) - PQ is fantastic! - some audio issues - "echo" sound coming through. Hopefully this gets sorted out. Will be hard to go back to the old 4:3 picture on Fox Sports golf coverage (as well as putting up with that irritating person they use during US domestic ad breaks) I'm going to enjoy the next four mornings - live golf in HD is a real treat Cheers
ozasis
lol @ the crosses to Leigh being in SD where he was holding the "ten HD" mic! haha Awesome PQ though... I'm glad I have the privilege.
Felix..
Simply stunning! Man if only the cricket and NBA could look this awesome here! And zero shytemark...at least here in Perth it disappears completely after a few seconds back from each ad break. Guys even if you're not that keen on the little ball game but love your HD I seriously suggest you check it out at some stage over the weekend. Who knows but this sort of superb broadcast just might convert you. Ahhh.....now this is why I forked out extra for an HDTV?! For gorgeous moments of HD heaven like this. Augusta has never looked so pretty from 20,000km away I just got up to get a drink, but there's no way I can go back to bed now even though the PVR is capturing all the HD goodness. Nothing quite like LIVE High Def! A+++ TEN!!!

mrplou
Wow You can actually see some break in the greens. Stunning Pity the coverage is again made up of add breaks and tiger standing around waiting to play. I think ive only seen badds.com hit one iron shot. Spero D.
Yes, HD was amazing. Keep up the good work Channel 10! Playing it back from the Topfield 7000 it is pretty nice. Some echo in the background sound but besides that it is good to see 10 bringing us some of the HD coverage the US gets. Keep up the good work 10. Now if only 7 was available in 1080i here in Adelaide.
