I have bought a plasma and PVR and a av receiver, my current dvd player will run component, I'm asuming straight into the PVR . A mate of mine said I should also run component into the reciever as well. The PVR has HDMI ,could someone please shed some light thanks....Timmsy.

As Work A4 says, this would be utilised for video switching however in your case you should;

DVD (via Component) -> TV

PVR (via HDMI) -> TV

Audio outputs (DVD/PVR) -> AV receiver (optical or S/PDIF)

Without more info (ie. model numbers) of your components I can't comment further.....

yamaha RXV559 receiver ,panasonic 50pv60a ,topfield hd7000 pvr ,pioneer 655a dvd player,hope this helps.

Then as I suggested above.

There would be no benefit routing your DVD player via the AVR and it may actually degrade the signal quality slightly.....
