matt86 Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Show Radio tx is now on as of sometime this afternoon 3/4/07 - it wasn't on earlier today, I tried it when driving past Hombush on the M4 this morning. Signal is fairly good around Blacktown. I listened to the broadcast a fair bit last year.
BlueDusk Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I tuned in on it like ten minutes ago, it's been stuck and skipping on the same track . Edit: 30 minutes later, it's still stuck on the same track. Edit 2: They fixed it around 7am this morning, 10 hours of the same song...
matt86 Posted April 4, 2007 Author Posted April 4, 2007 Edit 2: They fixed it around 7am this morning, 10 hours of the same song... Then it must have broken again after that because I checked just on 8am this morning and it was repeating the same 10sec again. Hopefully someone has put the CD out of its misery by now
billybob_chider Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Hi all, Show Radio receivable at good levels down here in Oatley with Pioneer DEH-4850 car tuner. The Sangean also receives it OK. I haven't listened to it much as it's mostly country music, which is not my cup of tea . If you don't know, the station is run entirely by students/new graduates from AFTRS (Australian Film, Television and Radio School).
matt86 Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 I have been wondering what freq Show radio will be on this year because 100.5 was issued to RPH at the end of last years Easter Show Broadcast. I suspected 90.9 or 91.5 but according to the Easter Show website it will be on 107.9. It will be quite interesting to see how well it works because 2ICE covers most of Sydney on a car radio. I don't think its going to work well at my location in Blacktown with good LOS to the West.
BlueDusk Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Looks like the ACMA are really struggling to find empty frequencies around Sydney . 90.9's currently in use by USU FM and I guess 91.5 is not suitable since it is broadcast from Homebush Bay which is closer to Campbelltown's c91.3 than USU FM's former transmission on 91.5. Will be interesting to see whether 1079 Lithgow or Easter Show Radio will be the dominating signal around Sydney on 107.9. I don't see why they can't use 100.5 until 2RPH comes on air. Off the top of my head other possible frequencies are: 99.5, 91.7, 90.7 and 89.5.

Cenn Cruaich could also cause problems- 3 stations fighting it out on the one frequency. Will be interesting to see what prevails from my place out of Lithgow and Homebush- I have a good LOS to the west as well. I suspect I'll get both transmissions at different points around the house. I was just thinking about 89.5 the other day (as a very low powered translator frequency for USU FM out at the Cumberland Campus)- I reckon it would be ideal for Homebush/Lidcombe, as that area is sufficiently distanced from Waverley and Liverpool. As for your other frequencies, and bearing in mind that Show Radio ideally wants to cover for several kilometres around Homebush: 99.5- too close to 2NSB imo. From Homebush, you can see Chatswood quite well. 91.7- too close to 2MFM, although 2NSB tested on this even when 2MFM was on, but this frequency is thought to be unusable in the central Sydney region. 90.7- too close to 2CCR Baulkham Hills (but would be better than 107.9 i reckon). 89.5- This would be my frequency of choice. As for 100.5, I've been getting some RF noise on it recently, perhaps this is 2RPH testing something? It isn't local interference...

Assuming ACMA have determined 91.5 to be too close to 91.3 I don't see why 91.7 couldn't be used on a temporary basis. I doubt there would be very much i/f between it and 2MFM if used from Homebush. Like billybob_chider, my alternate preference would be 89.5, this should work OK. 90.7 is also possible but I think there would be too many problems for 2CCR around Parramatta, even if only used on a temporary basis from Homebush. This is not the first time Show Radio has met 2ICE. Show Radio used to be 95.3 until 2004 when it was bought by DMG. I know I could get the 2004 Show Radio broadcast in Blacktown but I can't remember if 2ICE (then KissFM) had vacated 95.3 by then or not. I do remember 2CR using 95.3 while Kiss was still on and it would depend what side of the hill as to what station you would hear.

(ツ) Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 There's also the possibility that AFTRS (Australian Film, Television and Radio School) might take WOWfms' 100.7 freq during the show as well. AFTRS used 100.7 for about 1 week last year for some "thingy..... "
billybob_chider Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 There's also the possibility that AFTRS (Australian Film, Television and Radio School) might take WOWfms' 100.7 freq during the show as well. AFTRS used 100.7 for about 1 week last year for some "thingy..... " That "thingy" was Next FM, designed to give AFTRS students a run at hosting commercial style programming. Personally, I think Next FM should be given the license permanently . Apparently, WOW FM charges exorbitant rates for airtime, which is probably why that station just relays Comradsat 24/7. The format of Next FM was similar to NOVA. Anyway, back on topic, I don't think SR would use WOW's frequency for the broadcast. Matt, you are right about Show Radio/2CR and 95.3- I just remembered this after my post. So we do have a precedent for 2ICE and Sydney TCBL's clashing. Nevertheless, 89.5 would still be a better option imo. From Oatley during these periods, 95.3 would toggle between Kiss FM and 2CR/Show Radio, but mostly the TCBL's dominated. When we throw in 2ABCRN Cenn Cruaich in tropo, the situation becomes worse than that of 95.3 in the late 90's.
BlueDusk Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Show Radio is on air now and it appears to dominate the frequency here at Hurstville. I wonder what happens when you head further west.

Here in Oatley (just down the road) it's about 50/50- I can still clearly hear 1079 Lithgow in some spots.

Its pretty much exactly 50/50 in Blacktown, any further west 1079 dominates, any further East its Show Radio. As a result neither are listenable in this area. Meanwhile 100.5 sits there with nothing at all on it.
timace Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 I can get Show Radio 107.9 @ pretty poorly from my office in Silverwater (LOS 2km to Olympic Park), it'd probably be better in the car. IMO, it's a bit too close to 2GO (which I can get about pretty well in my car). I've never tried getting 2ICE, but I'll try it when I leave the Olympic Park area this weekend.

In my Getz I drove from Frenchs forest to Meadowbank. I found the reception was really good at a lookout near Eastwood. Direct line is still not perfect at West Pennant Hills there are issues. The Lithgow station fights for it a bit. Where is it transmitted from exactly?
matt86 Posted March 29, 2008 Author Posted March 29, 2008 Where is it transmitted from exactly? The antenna is on top of one of the lighting towers in the NAB Arena.
mgaleano Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 The antenna is on top of one of the lighting towers in the NAB Arena. At Parramatta Stadium using my sony portable walkman/radio the reception is good.
