The_Preacher1973 Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Howdy Peeps,Just thought I'd drop by and say that my TW600 has clocked up 1788 hours (in 12 monhts*) and is now asking for a new lamp, lucky Epson gave me a freebie! The bulb is starting to get more and more flickery, particularly when its cool. Just need to get the motivation to get up in the roof and drop the projector down to change the bulb. I havent cleaned the filter since the 500 hour mark because there was hardly any dust in it then. It willl be interesting to see how much brighter it is with the new bulb as you tend to get used to things as they fade away. * I really should make an effort to turn it off when I'm not using it. This is set up on an MCE PC and is used for TV, Movies, Music and casual web browsing each day. That is all. Cheers, Luke It's probably less effort to change the bulb now then after it blows. Glass and crap goes everywhere requiring the PJ to be pulled apart and cleaned. A stitch in time and all that...
sunnyboy Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 It's probably less effort to change the bulb now then after it blows. Glass and crap goes everywhere requiring the PJ to be pulled apart and cleaned. A stitch in time and all that... Guys, I thought I would ask a quick question of all of you experts... I have an Epson Tw700 which has about 150 hours on it... I was thinking about investing in a spare globe from Pricejapan while the dollar is so good... What I wanted to ask was do new globes have a set shelf life?? I mean can I buy one new now and only use it in a couple of years time when the currelt bulb goes?? Or is it better to wait till closer to when the bulb needs replacing.. Cheers Sunil.
Kabal Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Lamps do not have a 'shelf life' as far as I know so if you want to pick up a spare one then its no problem
Guest Hawk7 Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Hey all, Well just thought I would add to this thread as I have just purchased one of these little babies! I get to pick it up on Thursday and we move into our new house this weekend, so am really looking forward to unpacking it and setting it up! Are there any good tips/advice from owners of this projector that you wouldn't mind sharing? (I have read most of this thread and found it to be very useful in my purchasing decision) Thanks.
scotty79 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Keep the filter clean, and it should give you a good decent service life. MY TW700 has 1000hrs on it now, it gets used for PS3,TV,movies etc regularly, it has the original lamp, and if anything, it is probably a little dimmer than it was originally when new. I really should get in there and dust out the unit, but its working quite well for now. One thing i have noticed is that it is off-centre of screen, so i do add a little shift/tilt on the lens, a bit of keystone correction and it does show a little CA (cromatic abberation) well, thats what it looks like to me, but, all in all, its a great unit. Just dont expect the "dynamic" mode to look good unless you're using it during the day or in a brightly lit room, at night, in a dark room its horrendous, but it was never intended to look good at night, thats what the theatre modes are for Cleaning the lens is probably a good idea (having said that, i'm lazy and i dont often enough) and you'll see what i mean, the lens cap is a WASTE of time, so mine lives without it on (its ceiling mounted btw), and it does benefit from having a quite dust off regularly... Great unit, no real complaints from my end.
Guest Hawk7 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Thanks Scotty79 - some very useful advice. This is my first HT projector, so a little unsure what to expect, how to setup, what problems/issues I should be looking for, etc, etc. I guess I will find out! Just for interest sakes I have just ordered the rest of my gear today. Got a great bargain on a Yamaha RX-V861b (even though the new 63 range is out, I couldn't get the good wife to up the budget, so this one will do just fine!). Also purchased a set of F20 Celestion front speakers and the F10 Celestion rear ones. Have also got a B&W LCR 3 centre speaker. Really looking forward to getting in our new house and setting it all up! Will let you guys know how it goes.
ugg327 Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I bought the tw700 last week after reading this thread.... It's been running for a week and am very impressed..BUT.. It seems to distort the image at the sides of the scree,,, you notice it mainly when someone on screen walks out of the picture.... My screen is perfectly flat... the pj is parallel to the screen.. My daughter wanted to have a look at it tonight and she started laughing and asked why the girls arm was fat.. I was watchin Raymond and 3 people were sitting on the couch but when the camera zoomed in so all you could see were the 3 people, then the outside pair were larger than the middle person... Any one noticed something like this.. I have not done any calibrating yet.. just selected theater black... does my question make sense? Thanks..

This is not a pj problem.I had this issue when I first set up mine.I cant remember but I'm pretty sure it has got to do with your aspect ratio on the pj.Have a play with them and I'm sure you will be right.
funkybits Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Yep, it's an aspect ratio problem. From memory the aspect ratio on the TW700 should be set to "Squeeze' and the aspect ratio settings on your input devices (eg DVD & STB) should be set to 16:9 Hope this helps
ugg327 Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Thanks boys.. that fixed it.... all looks good now.... I might have to start playing with a few more settings now.. LOL

ryskie Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Hi guys new to posting on this forum, I have finally bought a house and can now start my dedicated HT room. Seeing as it is my first projector I have decided on the Epson TW700 ( especially with the bonus lamp and screen ). It seems a good deal. I Have a couple of questions which i hope you guys can clear up for me as Im new to this. First of all my room size is 4.7m x 3.3m and will be sitting about 4 metres back. *I am looking at a aussiemorphic lens so as to go a scope screen, Will this work with this projector? *What size screen should I be looking at? *What is the best way to mount the projector? Is the ceiling the best way? Hope you guys can help me. Ryan
juiceman Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Hey guys im thinking of buying one of these and am after some advice, for the first few months it will be in a small room and the throw range will be 2.5 mtrs and seating distance will be the same, what screen size and what quality of picture will i get at this distance, will it be to blurry or to much screen door effect also if you have had one for awhile whats you opinion on them, sorry to ask so many questions but will be my first pj and where i live no one has them on display so you view them, will get me one in for around 1400 so with bonus lamp and screen good value i think.
eyesandears Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 I must say these are looking tempting, my concern is dust. Are the easy cleaning benefits of the Sanyo z5 worth the extra money. My Sanyo Z2 has served me well anf taught me a few things about projectors. Particularly what an enemy dust is. The other is the life of LCD panels as the deteriorate from the lam heat and light. How easy is the epson to clean dust off the optics, panels etc? Cheers E & E
