Hi all,

I have just bought my Epson Tw700 and hooked it up to my HTPC and must say that I am quite impressed. It is still early days, just up to the 15hour on my projector but I like it. Just though I would create a Tw700 owners thread so people can ask questions, air grievances (Ie Panasonic type problems) or just let people know their Tw700 experiences so far for future users.

Mine has been excellent so far except for one thing. I have an HTPC connected via VGA, and it has an intermittent flicker across the bottom of the picture. I have as yet to get off my a*** and call Epson to find out what's going on, hopefully they will be able to fix it. Apart from that...:D:P

Nice, I have mine connected via dvi to hdmi and no issues. Let us know how you go with the customer support when you get through. Oh by the way, if you register your product you get an additional 6 months warrenty. Go see the site.

Horizontal flickering across the bottom of the picture is usually a synchronisation issue. Its actually quite common with vga input and most of the tim the problem is with the source and not your projector. I suggest you play with your display settings to see if you can change the refresh rate.

Called them just before 5.00pm and only had to hold for about two minutes. The tech said the same thing as deflepper, that it's a synch issue, although he seems to think it's the cable that's to blame. Not too sure if thats right, given that it worked flawlessly with the AE700 & AX100. Still, I have duly unplugged it and then plugged it back in, and will observe over the next couple of days.

Yeah, I know about the warranty. I signed up for that before I set up the projector!

Im also a happy TW700 owner. Just projecting on a 100" diagonal white wall, will buy a proper screen in time. I actually didnt have much luck with DVI to HDMI unfortunately, but I think that was a problem with my laptop/cable rather than the projector. Im currently using the analog VGA connection at XGA (1024x768) resolution, using squeeze/wide/zoom modes as appropriate for the source video content. I havent seen any flicker issues so far.

In the long run, Im also aiming for a dedicated HTPC like Tinsanta, so I can get full 720p resolution and play almost anything out there (except HD-DVD/Blu-Ray discs atm). Hoping there will be HD-DVD-ROM type devices (for PCs) coming soon

With DVI to HDMI, I have no problems except for the fact that My computer displays it as a second monitor, so media centre works without a problem although when I try and drop back to xp I just the backround with no Icons or start bar. Although that is just configuration and that has nothing to do with the epson.

Also Good to hear that you didnt have to wait to long with customer service. If I ever need help I am happy to hear that!

Lots of mounting going on this weekend, woohoo! Celing mount for projector, screen mounted onto the wall and also speakers on to the wall. How exciting!

old thread i know, but what distance from the screen can you mount it? has anyone got theirs 4.5m from a screen with a <100" screen?

am glad to hear that it looks good via vga, as it will mostly be used for xbox 360 gaming and movies.

cheers

I have mine about 4m from the 92" screen. It looks fantastic. I use it as a normal TV and have no problems as yet. I play 360 through it as well. Love it!

cool, as my room is only 4.5m long i figured it is going to be much easier for me to mount it on a shelf at the rear of the room rather than on the ceiling.

http://epson.com.au/products/projector/emptw700_specs.asp

this is a link to the specs page, and im not really sure what i should be looking at or calculating to find how big the screen will be from 4.5m, and how much adjustment the pj has..

also what height should i be mounting it at?

Im looking at one of these units, I was pretty disappointed when I first saw our unit at work....but after some careful fiddling around and activating the de-interlacer in the advanced menu im pretty impressed.

Im going to test my Ps3 on one of these and on a Mitsu HC1100 and see which one looks the best......

Ill pop down to my Local Specialist outlet (just next door actually ) he's got a HC1100 on display and can get me one for a special "biz" price :D which is a fair bit less than what the Epson at the special biz price would be .... when I saw the Hc1100 i was impressed with it's bright vibrant image, only thing I did notice the RBE a bit, but it wasn't that bad. ....but I dunno for how long I could handle it....

Only thing that turns me off LCD's is the long term fading, but so far I havent heard those complaints with the tw700.

Ill let you know when i get around to doing it though

Ive racked up over 300 hours now on my tw700. still very happy with it. fantastic project.

The zoom and lens shift, means that you can place it virtually anywhere and get good picture.

My Apartment is very light and that is what moved me towards the Tw 700. After fiddling with the menus I am very happy with the picture quality. Although I didnt look at that many projectors just the Panasonic and the epson to be honest. I was leaning towards the Panasonic then I heard the horror stories and went the Epson. The price was great as well $2000.

Hi All.

I have had a TW700 since last december also using an upscaling Pioneer DV696av

with brilliant results through an HDMI Cable.

I have it setup on a shelf 6m from a 220cm home made screen, with a very bright picture.

I also use the lens shift which works really well.

I would like to get a HD-DVD Player. Is anyone here using this combination and

if so what are your impressions.

Also I found this thread on the US av forums very interesting and you may be interested

in some of the settings they have used, although you should always trust your own eyes

for what suits you best.

Guys,

I am looking to buy my first projector and the Epson TW700 looks like the one I will go for. I do not have a dedicated theatre room rather going to take over our formal lounge/dinining room which we hardly use. The dimensions of the room are 7.5m x 4m. Because its on the lower level of our 2 storey house ceiling mounitng is out until I can build a dedicated theatre room. I will be looking to put it on a shelf at the back of the room. The question I have is 7m too far a distance to project from as I do get a fair bit of ambient light into the room?? The other option if I dont shelf mount it is the good old coffee table. No screen initially, will be projecting onto a white wall but will get a screen in time...

Much appreciated...

The Epson has a Zoom function and lense shift so it is quite flexible when it comes to placement. Also the brightness of the projector is great for ambient light as in my case. So if I had to guess I would say that you should be fine, although it is just a guess based on my experience and not on to many facts. What screen size are you looking for

Thanks for the reply Tinsanta...

I will be sitting at about 5-6m from the screen so was looking at getting at least a 100inch screen if possible...

I know I might be limited due to my room dimensions and projector placement..

With the lens shift function on this projector is placing to the side of the room an option or is that a no go?? I know youre ment to have the projector as close to centre as possible...

Cheers...
