Hi All

Can anyone help me with Loewe TV connection to Media Centre PC.

Recently received long awaited MCPC and have been using successfully in our family room, but video quality is not the best on our much loved Loewe WSTV. Running XP 2005 MCE and viewing Media Centre is OK but working in windows is somewhat of a strain on the eyes. Is there any way I can get a better PQ on this set – model Aventos 3781 ZW with Q2500M chassis.

Currently connected to TV out socket on 7300GT Video card with supplied adaptor / component cables to AV3 input on Loewe Aventos 3981. Only video settings I could get to work is with video setup set to Component out at 576i and AV3 input set to YUV sync from y. This setting on TV previously working well for DVD players with component out.

My understanding is that my Loewe set is compatible with an optional VGA input card and that some people have gotten good results connecting a PC to these sets with VGA input option fitted. Is this true? And if so are these cards still available or does anyone know where I could source one from. Have tried various video output settings, unable to get any better than 720 x 576i true colour at 50hz.

Would appreciate any info as we have been quite happy with the Loewe to date and it would be a shame to have to toss it.

I wouldn't recommend using an SDTV as a monitor for general windows/etc use.

The VGA card (at least on early non WS models) would allow 480p. If think you might get better on the WS models, but I still think its not going to be too hot for general computer use.

The problem, I suppose is:

Loewe TV looks best for general TV/video viewing (SD).

And LCD works best for computer monitor use.

I wouldn't swap to an LCD for general TV/video viewing, but I wouldn't use a TV for a computer monitor ... if you get my drift!

Im with santa. CRT based TV's are crap for using windows/any PC stuff. Great for video/games but **** for the fine text you need for windows use. TV's arnt ment to be used as monitors (as youve found out

If you want something in your living room to watch tv and do your spreadsheets you really need a digital display.

The VGA card may provide a bit better picture but might limit the resolution so you'd be no better off in the end.

Mind you - this is speculation, the card may have some magical properties!

I know windows looks **** on my HD CRT RPTV (its hooked up to a HTPC) video on the other hand is very nice indeed!

Cheers,

Bitey

Santa,

I agree with what you are saying, I am currently looking into using KVM extension to connect LCD monitor / K&M to be able to use the MCPC from the study. This should give me better use of this machine for general windows applications. But would still like reasonably acceptable resolution in the family room for occasional email / internet use. Also wouldn't using VGA to the Loewe improve video PQ over what I am getting now?

I'm also trying to find somewhere to buy the VGA upgrade kit for my Loewe Xelos 78cm. I believe the PQ from your PC will be many times better than trying to connect via the standard connections using.

If you need any persuading, check out this review of the VGA upgrade kit:

How does 1024x576p@50Hz on a Loewe Aconda SD CRT sound?

Anyway... anyone know where i could possibly get one of these kits from?

I have to disagree with most - the VGA card is well worth the investment, it produces significantly improved PQ over other inputs. It's easy to input resolutions higher than 640x480, I think I ended up with 854x500-something, but 1024x5xx was visibly resolving more detail - perhaps it was psychological but I tried custom test patterns and was able to discern 1-pixel resolution at 1024.

It's been a while since I've used it, my main input was an Xbox used for XBMC and the difference between standard inputs and VGA was quite significant.

Thanks for your feedback niall. What Loewe set do you have, I assume it had the VGA card option already or did you get it fitted? Did you use it at all viewing video from PC?
