noreaster
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that the audio on the ABC HD service on Channel 20 is noisy. Last night Media Watch had a constant hissing audio with little beeps on scene changes. It was also evident on other programs. I went to the SD service & neither audio transmission had this problem. It seems to be isolated to the HD channel. This is on the Melbourne Transmission. I have noticed it on other occasions. I tried listening on my computer DVB card but the speaker system is inadequate. I think it is still there.

MichaelCPE
The ABC Channel 20 audio was faulty on Monday night. There was a little hiss all night. About 5pm on Tuesday it was really noisy, and Channel 2 dobly was clean. So I rang the ABC Reception Advice team on 1300 13 9994 and reported the problem. I was called back about an hour later, and thanked for telling them about it, told that it was now fixed, and had been a national problem. There is only one control room, and naturaly they spend most of their time listening to analogue 2 and digital 2 as this is the bulk of the audience. So sometimes they need to be told when 20 is faulty. I have a very good system, and are fussy. But it does suprise me how few people notice audio faults. Cheers, Michael

Cheers, Michael Correct, there is one control room which is looking after 4 feeds, the main ABC Network feed, the NSW/Sydney feed, the Nationail network HD feed, and the state QLD feed. Of which, not one feed has off-air audio monitoring. All that is monitored mostly is line/control booth audio output at the 16:9 ARC stage for the main network SD service prior going to the encoder/mux. There is no off-air audio monitoring past the mux in the control room, only vision.
ckent
Does simple equipment exist, that lets you plug in a set of audio cables and alert you when one of them goes to dead audio? CK.
