laurie Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Well hopefully we may see a better bitrate on this game its out of Perth with a replay to Sydney at 22:30 I will put this up every week to remind people of the games in HD so I for one cannot forget cheers laurie
Sambo90 Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 I'll enjoy the live broadcast in Adelaide, and if the fast movement picture improves, I will be sure to post some vids.

anthonysimilion Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Bitrate was just over 14Mbps so why there was some blocking during panning had me baffled ! Unfortunately 14Mbps is just too low for 1080i sport to be without noticeable blocking during fast movement. I believe during fast movement the bitrate peaks at higher than 14Mbps (but obviously still not high enough), but on average it would be ~14Mbps.

So what sort of figure would we need to wipe out blocking altogether? Is it a figure that's been tested by the networks at all & therefore a possibility of being implemented in the near future?
anthonysimilion Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 So what sort of figure would we need to wipe out blocking altogether? Is it a figure that's been tested by the networks at all & therefore a possibility of being implemented in the near future? Every 'bit' counts, but even at 17Mbps and above you'll still see some blocking, it will just be much less noticeable. Unfortunately, the networks only have ~21Mbps to work with (depending on the error correction and other factors), and they have to do an SD simulcast.

Just out of curiosity what would the bitrate need to be for MPEG4??
Sambo90 Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Just a bump as it's on tonight, and hopefully TEN fix that waterkmark, in the first qtr last week it was great barely noticeable, then they had this dark one come on and it got annoying.
Champion_R Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Just out of curiosity what would the bitrate need to be for MPEG4?? Optimistically, it's suggested MPEG4 is 50% more efficient so under that assumption, the bitrate would need to be 10mbits to sustain the current level of HD quality but the reduction in minimum bitrate shouldn't be the motivating factor. Better quality at a given bitrate should be as 15mbit MPEG4 > 15mbit MPEG2.
anthonysimilion Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Shitty watermark again. It's too dark! It's much darker than last week.
Champion_R Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 The digital breakup on the West Coast game is horrible, hard to believe it's 15.5mbits. Nine looks much better at 15mbits. Perhaps Ten should be looking at new encoders. Also, I flicked over to SD which is running about 4.7mbits and the PQ was disgraceful. It looked worse than a 350MB XViD off the net. Could someone at Ten please take the initiative and turn the bloody guide off. They're clearly strapped for bits and pissing away 1mbit for a stupid guide channel is madness when both SD and HD are running below par.
Champion_R Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 And now we see the sheer stupidity of the SD and HD multicast requirement. We're stuck with a system that gives a half arsed effort for both standards.
Sambo90 Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Yeah last weeks broadcast looked better, but atleast TEN are trying. I'm sure with each game they will have a review then look at things to fix etc.
Spero D. Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 More macroblocking tonight. Also no 5.1. Lastly why don't they move the scoreboard over the top far left and the watermark top far right or bottom far right.
anthonysimilion Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 More macroblocking tonight. Also no 5.1. Lastly why don't they move the scoreboard over the top far left and the watermark top far right or bottom far right. Because analog is a 14:9 centre cut from HD - thus all graphics must be 14:9 safe. Unfortunately they didn't take this opportunity to move the watermark to the 14:9 safe area - all graphics were 4:3 safe.
mrmaxwell1503559518 Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Will the Sydney replay be in HD? The FTV guide says the game is on at 7.30pm
Eth Nick Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 It's much darker than last week. I thought they used this weeks watermark from the second quarter in last weeks match - the watermark during last weeks first quarter was heaven, but they changed it after quarter time to the shocking, darker version. Also, the scoreboard doesn't need to stand out so much - people only need it catch up on the scores now & then. They don't need to see the score in full view every second of the game. Please make it more transparent, Ten! Its' size, along with the bloody tanned watermark on the other side of the screen just take up too much space. Fine, so they can't move them into the 16:9 area, just make them both more transparent!
MN-Robert Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 While the game looks fantastic in HD what the hell is ten thinking with that black water mark. That's absurd. It has the same opacity as the bloody score box
LBM Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 They should do what they did with the Golf (and what I think all programming should have). Image - How the watermark should look Everyone would have to agree that this looks much better than what they were using today.
