jordang Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Morning all, Just a quick post... i noticed there wasn't that much information about the older s-series Bravia tv's.. understandably, as they're old news now. But the reason i went for it was that the old monitor was dying on the PC, and being (another) Warcraft nut, i decided to go bigger, and widescreen. The v-series was $1000 more, but had a HD tuner - I have the fusion HDTV card in the pc, so that was ultimately pointless. the only advantage was a better color system on the v-series for me, but the price couldn't justify it. So, thank christ for Videopro... they had it down to $1293 (2 weeks ago it was $1500!). They had the special 1 week earlier than everyone else, but i couldn't be bothered waiting to see if the competitors were going to top them.. it probably would've only been a couple of bucks if that. Got the thing home and unpacked it, and the usual - christ, bit bigger than it looked in the shop. Plugged the pc in through the VGA cable. powered it up. flicked through the inputs (which is quite slow) to get to the pc input, and was initially scared. the screen appeared, but had a static effect going through the screen... not sure how you'd put it, sort've a random-combing effect. Panicked, breathed into a bag for a few minutes and then changed to the native resolution 1368x768.. and ta-da.... beautiful. turns out the internal scaler on the S-seris s---u---c---k----s. Spent 5 minutes mucking around with the colour settings to get the blacks a tad blacker, and now - couldn't be happier. World of Warcraft plays in 1368x768 nicely, and turning on 6x mulisampling to ease out the 'jaggies'... stunning stuff. Pc is a dual-core 2.8 with a ATI Radion X1950. You will only get 60 frames a second with the strongest pc as this monitor doesn't go any higher then 60hz at that resolution, but it's not a problem - still smooooooooooth. (my previous monitor was 75hz, but the difference in smoothness is almost negligable). so now after my initial panic, i'm VERY happy with my purchase. Slight re-arrangement of the computer desk needed. Very hard to sit 50cm away from a 32" screen and try to play a video game. J %
Wink1503561161 Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 (edited) Good to see you had success with this TV I was basically considering 4 LCD TVs for sole use with my PS3 and PC Sony S-Series - Good but too expensive (but not for the price you got it for). Panasonic TX-32LX60A - Dual HDMI but PC input has issues. Acer At3220b - Bought but returned due to humming issue. LG 32LC2R - Recommended by someone here at DTV Forum after the Acer debacle. My new TV Displays PS3/PC perfectly and black too! I too am using the TV around 50cm away on a computer desk: http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/8610/dsc02347pj1.jpg Many people said that was too close for a TV that size but I find it just about perfect. I also got the feeling it is alot bigger on the desk than when you see it on the showroom floor. There should be a list of LCD TVs confirmed to work/not work with PC input.. That LG does look nice, how much did you pay for it? I am looking for an LCD for my PS3, Xbox 360 and maybe my iMac (17" is too small!) and that TV looks great and would fit into my room nicely.

tleehm Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Sony Central/Bing Lee/HN are moving the 32v2000 out between $1950 - $1990, given this is already out of production and the new one 32v2500 is already out in Japan and UK..... I'm hoping it will drop a bit further around Easter. Fingers crossed.

J % Interesting reading, because i am currently still out of my mind scared. I plugged in my computer (laptop) to see what pictures would look like, whatever the resolution i choose, the picture is all redblue, there is no green colour. I called service they told me it is a problem with my computer. I told them i had no green colour and this could be an indication of a green wire having problems (i checked cables with other comps and monitors, cables ok) so it could be on the connector. Which would be ouch! Has anyone got this problem, or heard of how to fix. i am sick worried, that i will have to service it. i don't want them touching and breaking it. rgs.
