Media release from SBS...

The management of SBS are proud to announce that the network will shortly commence limited broadcasts in the new High Definition Format 720i.

This format was chosen for its rich feature mix, including high picture quality, combined with low effective bitrates.

A technical panel spent over 3 years debating the pros and cons of every HD format before settling on 720i at 8Mbps.

The new 720i format shall replace the highly successful and popular 576p format, and should quickly prove itself in the market.

Whoa!!! I don't believe it! Were'd they get the money from? And why couldn't they do this last year when the world cup soccer was on??

"will shortly commence" - when is that?

also, 720i? I've never even heard of that format. I hope that my set top box supports it.

At least you claimed two scalps and potentially multiple lurkers who don't post.

C'mon 720i. You shouldn't have given it away so easily Santa, and perhaps you could've caught out some of the regulars here.

Given we're talking about SBS, I thought 720i was more credible!:P

Is it just me or SBS SD seems to give a better picture than the 576p HD...

It's not just you. SBS's 576p is completely derived from their SD, and is run through an extensive filtering process, which removes any significant detail.
