Guest EZYHD Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 I boght a converter plug in Hong Kong last trip for $2.00 in the market place.
AndrewW Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 I boght a converter plug in Hong Kong last trip for $2.00 in the market place. No need for a converter plug, these things take the standard two pin plug. Most people have half a dozen of these lying around the place. If you still don't know what I'm talking about, its the cord that goes between the power point and the power brick on the 360. Andrew.

Referred to as a figure-8 cable I think. Damn, that is a good price. Wish I had known before getting my addon locally as I would have accepted warranty return hassles for such a low price.
AndrewW Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 Referred to as a figure-8 cable I think. Yep that's the one, couldn't remember what they were called for the life of me. Andrew.
HeXa Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 or you can get them for $199 from BigW in the current sale... has King Kong in the box. afaik as they are just the $249 pack marked down.
craig134 Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 After play-asia's shipping fees for it you'll probably end up paying more than the $219 you would at dvdcrave.
c0redumpt Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 Hexa: Has BigW got these for sale at $199 in current sale?????
pixelengine Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Hmm... I'd definitely be up for one of these from Big W at $199 - can anybody confirm?
Gino Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Yep that's the one, couldn't remember what they were called for the life of me.Andrew. Don't you mean a C7 plug? Just looks like a figure 8. Anyway, this is a very good price, was checking out with my credit card details when I suddenly stopped and realised I don't need one... already have the XA1!
HeXa Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Hexa: Has BigW got these for sale at $199 in current sale????? oops.. $198 I didn't check myself, but the discussion over at OCAU has a few people managing to get them at that price. Thread -> http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=561586

Thread -> http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=561586 Yep, my local BigW had 2 of these sitting in the games case this morning. They are the standard bundle with King Kong and remote, just like everyone else is selling. The sticker on the front of the case says $198 and it doesn't look like a sale price but their normal price. Damn, I just wasted $51 by buying less than a week ago. How can BigW sell for $198 when just about everyone else is close to RRP? Anyway, it's a great deal at $198.

I also tried to find this 198$ deal in the BigW catalogue (online, and "paper" version) - could not see it anywhere? also went to HarveyNorman in CBD, they had not yet received any stock either all seems a bit odd?? grrrr!!! cheers
HeXa Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 mmm.. someone had similar problem in a Sydney store.... wondering if only the suburban stores have the deals... milk the CBD customers for awhile.

I should clarify that I am not that familiar with the BigW product organisation. When I said games desk, I meant the low wrap around cabinet/desk in the DVD department: the one that is difficult to see what's in there unless you walk around it. There were definitely 2 addons in the cabinet at the Karrinyup branch: whether they had more stock sitting elsewhere I have no idea. I was surprised the addon was not in the xbox section, but then the console peripherals are a bit haphazard. No-one seems to advertise the HD-DVD addon very much: even Myer and HN had only tiny adverts which didn't describe the product in detail. You really have to know about the product in advance and even then it's not easy to find.

CliffofOz1503559525 Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Big thanks to HeXa and IanD for the Big W tip. Headed into today (4/3) to check it out. Store 1 - Park Beach, Coffs Harbour. No units on display in the main accessories section, so asked the staff. She had no idea what I was talking about. Had a poke around the display case and couldn't find anything there either. Just put it down to living in the 'sticks' - probably we a while before we see stock here. Store 2 - Palms, Coffs Harbour. Same story. This time I asked if they could check their inventory system to see if they had any stock (i.e. they might actually have these things, but they just don't know where they are). No luck - no inventory system...what you see is what you get. Wasn't giving up yet, so headed around the display case section again to explain exactly what I was looking for...and there it was! Just sitting there with the rest of games they keep locked under the counter. Marked at $198, so picked up there and then. Has all the goodies - King Kong disc (seems to be the standard commercial version - just double checked at EzyDVD site), remote control. Only problem now is that I don't have an Xbox 360 to use it with! Not sure whether to get an Xbox 360 or just use it with my PC (with special drivers and WinDVD8 Platinum).
nonny Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 If you are buying a 360 get along to JB Hifi before tomorrow as they have the special 1yr birthday deal. Xbox 360 premium Gears of War Crackdown (with Halo3 beta invite) Project Gotham Racing 3 Dead or Alive 4 2 x free XBLA arcade games $699... usually the GoW pack (Xbox360 + GoW) is $639 on its own so you're getting all of the rest cheap. Best deal in town right now.
HeXa Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 checked BigW Gunghalin today.... saw at least one in the locked display case (left side below the security camera monitor) with what appears to be a normal price sticker of $198

Best deal in town right now. No JB HiFi in Coffs, but we just got a WOW, which looks like a JB clone to me. WOW have a GOW bundle for $678, but there is no mention of Crackdown or the 2 free arcade games. Tempted to sit tight and wait for Elite to be released. Curious to see what pricing they put on it, plus what effect it will have pricing of Core and Premium packages. Also might be some bargains on ebay with people updating to newer model.
Gino Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 I don't see it affecting core or premium pricing, but certainly you'll probably find some bargains on second hand units.

Not sure whether to get an Xbox 360 or just use it with my PC (with special drivers and WinDVD8 Platinum). Have a bit of a play with the addon and a PC with the Toshiba drivers, PowerDVD 6.5 from "other" sources (if your graphics card is not X1600 or 7600 or better) and AnyDVD HD and see what it can do. If your graphics card is X1600 or 7600 or better, try PowerDVD 7.3. You might find PowerDVD 6.5 doesn't work with King Kong though.
