Raaf_ Hornet Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Hi all , just wondering if anyone can help me, we put on an extension to our house, and my electrician ran a coax cable to the new room split off the exsisting cable to the lounge. Prior I had great SBS reception, but now it terrible in both rooms , extremely fuzzy and virtauly unwatchable. We purchesed a Toshiba STB, and even now the SBS reception is not great, sometimes breaking up , and sometimes no picture at all. Thanks for any help, Jeff
mtv Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 When you say you previously had great SBS reception, are you talking about analogue or digital? A common fault I regularly see is electricians poorly terminating coax connections on screw & saddle wallplates and splitters, usually with a short between the centre conductor and shield. I'd be checking for that first. As it appears the electrician caused the problem, have him return to rectify it.
Raaf_ Hornet Posted March 31, 2007 Author Posted March 31, 2007 Thanks MTV for your input, to clarify, the good reception was on analogue. I dont know if this means anything, but on the STB display, when on the SBS the SNR level is on 6 to 15 dB, whilst on the other channels it is around the 24 db mark, Jeff
philmore Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Here in Benigo since last night , I have perfect signal of SBS but a Black screen. All the other Digital Channels seem ok though

That's if the electrician even used a splitter.... I can't count the number of jobs I've been to where cables have just been taped together or connected a terminal block... poor termination is the most likely cause though....
