Harry1503559513 Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Weird, last night Iwas watching Law and Order and as I am a bit hard of hearing I turned on captions and got what looked like hieroglyphics. I switched to some other channels to see if it was my set top box (Teac) playing up, but they were fine. So TEN what is going on ????? BTW I am in Perth if that makes a difference.

I am in Adelaide & this has happened a few times on my Strathfield set top box, at the same time - Rove last sunday- my teac displayed captions ok& my mediastar displayed nothing. happens on veronica mars also.
glow Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 I've got a Teac DVB300. I've also noticed problems with some of Channel 10's closed captions in Sydney e.g. Law And Order SVU - they seem to be using a Greek alphabet instead of a Roman one. I've also had problems with Channel 9 captions for over a year where lines are missing or the previous lines are not cleared. Have you tried contacting Teac or Ch10? It might help if more than one person reports a problem.
pykedgew Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 (edited) Hi After a bit of searching, I found this post. I am from Brisbane & having the same problem with Teac DV-B300. We are direct line of site to Mt Cootha across the city. It shows up something Greek alphabet or hieroglyphics closed captions likes others have mentioned. Had rung the engineer at Channel Ten & they said it was my box (I have 2 DV-B300 settop box). They are pretty reluctance to do anything at the moment. On Channel Ten, the programs we have trouble is Totally Wild, NCIS, Law & Order and Scope. When our 5:00pm news come ons, it's perfect & also the commercials. Last night when we were watching NCIS through the Analog tuner it was fine. However I notice there were quick flashes of useless caption every now & then. Also in the wrong background colour like bluish instead of black. But very very brief & it seems like there is some extra code being added to it or it has a glitch of some kind. Or their HD system is not doing the job of transmitting the correct details. I will be doing a follow up to see what is the cause. This started to happening about 1-2 months ago. Since this is happening in different part of Australia, surely it cannot be the settop box problem. When all others channels works fine. Cheers Ken Edited April 18, 2007 by pykedgew
Phototaker Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I find that the subtitles coming from channel 10 are always scrambled & occasionally appear at the wrong time. The titles that I'm seeing are coming from programs recorded with my PVR. & came with SD broadcasts. I have been reading messages in this forum to see it station are also broadcasting subtitles with there HD broadcasts but haven't see any answer. The reason that I ask is because I have a Sony Bravia X LCD tv that doesn't appear to have captains.

emibel Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 Well, Ten's caption problem has been going on for months now. Will they ever fix it?
strazos Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 it seems to be like that for all channels if theres a food commerical or at the start of a big brother voting thing. not just on ten? is this what everyone is having problems with?
emibel Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Well, that's not the problem I am talking about. My problem only occurs on Ten and only on shows captioned in the US (not sure about UK shows, but it certainly doesn't happen on Aussie shows auch as Neighbours). The closed captions either are missing slabs of dialog or become corrupt part of the time.
emibel Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 For the record, it looks like Ten's problem with missing/corrupt captions on US shows is finally fixed. House, Medium and L&O CI all looked pretty good this week.
