StevenA Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 http://www.smh.com.au/news/National/Rudd-s...4761712119.html We'll all be OK - Kevin has it all under control !!!!!!!
aztec Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Selective quotation bound to get a response. Let's choose another, "increased deaths arising from more intense heat waves in this country". Turnbull claims the content of the report has been known for sometime, yet all the Government has promised to do is give $200 million for education.
Mining Man Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Well that's 2 votes from Ms MM and I. Oh, hang on, you're being sarcastic. And just what have you got against butterflies?
StevenA Posted March 30, 2007 Author Posted March 30, 2007 Well that's 2 votes from Ms MM and I.Oh, hang on, you're being sarcastic. And just what have you got against butterflies? Not a thing - I love them ! Used to get some real beauties when I was working at the Panguna copper mine on Bougainville before the war there closed it. Just stirring on the hysteria being created about climate change - we need to be doing things internationally to stop the impending catastrophe - Australia is a flea in relation to the developintg countries (China, India etc) and we don't want to go broke fixing our little bit if the big boys keep producing ever increasing amount of Co2 - we would be better off working on the big things and pushing a global approach. I keep thinking back to the '70s (I think it was) when we were being told that the world was going to die in an impending Ice Age with acid rain and other bad things - it never happened - and now we are going the other way. There are too many "if"s in all the doom predictions for my liking. Not to say that we shouldn't clean up the world, but let's not move our society back to the stone age to do it.

So if the World was a woman being raped by all those countries adding to global polution, you would contend that Australia's 1% doesn't consitute rape or at worst only a very minor offense? Or maybe that it isn't worth ceasing the rape until those who are worse, own up and stop, either before or with us? An interesting perspective, which is similar to the defense used by the Bankstown Muslim gang rapists. Their individual offences were; it was argued, mitigated by the greater offences of others in the group and even the victim. Maybe the real culprit in Global Warming, is planet Earth for flaunting all it's wonderous bounty so willingly in front of a previous generation that couldn't control themselves? It's a crying shame that any attempt to "keep the house clean" is seen by anyone as a step back into a pre-industrial past. The technological advances required to achieve many of the goals required to even stabilise the situation are so far from a backward step that the word advances is the logical choice to describe them. Those scientists, economists, engineers, investors, business people and governments who will inevtably be called on to devise, create and integrate the relevant technologies would probably take rather unkindly to being labelled a bunch of contemporary 'luddites'. Australia has always looked elsewhere than our own shores in the past: especially when it comes to these sorts of big issues. It's time for a country that prides itself on it's inventiveness, to get of it's arse and prove it - rather than proving we're a bunch of lap dog's being led by whoever throws us a large enough bone.

Too many words there Steve
Steve C Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Too many words there Steve Yes I know it's too much for a generation with such short attention spans and concentration levels. I really must use more abbreviations and acronyms so those who are so afflicted can cope.

Thanx, much appreciated, try not to be too harsh, think of it as missionary work to those less able to be able to see the wood for the trees
Steve C Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Thanx, much appreciated, try not to be too harsh, think of it as missionary work to those less able to be able to see the wood for the trees Hmmm... so an idea like removing the bark that covers the wood at eye level through 360 degrees on all the trees, if applied to my writing should make it much easier to understand? Yes, literary ringbarking should do the trick nicely!

Steve C Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 Naww no way Steve...dont listen to Aloy hes just jealous..and I was only joshingYour posts are trademark <-- honest injun winky Really? Wipes tear of joy at finally being understood from eye... Iz knowz yuz waz only joshin' BTW, my posts aren't trademark because they are longwinded, high blown and generally indecipherable novellas by any chance? Oh; and - "How"... Greetings Honest Injun! Lard challenged, pigmentation deprived, Anglo-derived, non-workaholic Antipodean who speaks with digits acknowledges winky with return gesture.

Yes, literary ringbarking should do the trick nicely! Well - you might give it a try - never know until you try. You could also call in an Engineer to help, they are as literalist as you appear presently to be, so a meeting of the minds would be in prospect. Oh and wood can mean timber, or it can mean a small forest.
Steve C Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 Oh and wood can mean timber, or it can mean a small forest. Really? I'm surprised that I can use so many words to create such verbosity, and miss that one. If that's the case; then I might have been making a deliberately summarised statement with far broader meaning than just the literal interpretation of seeing the woody core of trees after the bark is removed. Not so sure I'm as capable of implying different layers of meaning as all that.

mello yello Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 C'mon Steve O - don't quit on us now Yeah you wish ...Licqourice
Steve C Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 C'mon Steve O - don't quit on us now If any one can do it - You can I can feel a second wind coming... Oooo... That was a relief! Now that's over; I reckon my fingers shall runneth over!
Steve C Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 Yeah you wish ...Licqourice Ah... the substance that brought me my second wind!
aztec Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Yes I know it's too much for a generation with such short attention spans and concentration levels.I really must use more abbreviations and acronyms so those who are so afflicted can cope. Noooo, please don't, I don't get to read many novels these days, with babies and TVs and things, so your novelas are the only things that get to stimulate that part of my brain. BTW, have you read any Dennis Wheatley?
mello yello Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Ah... the substance that brought me my second wind! Yeah dont go getting too cocky Shakespeare....you dont need to be a novelist to win a streetfight. And you wont find reflexes or wits on any page of any Thesaurus <---blackeyed winky

Doesn't your missus read New Idea or Women's Day? They've got such beautifully crafted novellas in them. So well crafted you'll yearn for soiled nappies to change as some real world relief. It's good to know that my verbosity is stimulating "that part of your brain", because writing all those words makes my brain hurt! The rest of me is fine though... Have I read any Dennis Wheatley? Not that I can recall... but I'm starting to lose track of the names of authors I've read over the years. He's not the brother of Glenn Wheatley is he?
Steve C Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Yeah dont go getting too cocky Shakespeare....you dont need to be a novelist to win a streetfight. And you wont find reflexes or wits on any page of any Thesaurus <---blackeyed winky Yeah; that dude who reckoned "the pen is mightier than the sword" definitely steered clear of streetfights! I guess finding reflexes and wits on any page of a Thesaurus, depends on how quickly you can flick through it's pages to get to the appropriate entry...
mello yello Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Yeah; that dude who reckoned "the pen is mightier than the sword" definitely steered clear of streetfights!I guess finding reflexes and wits on any page of a Thesaurus, depends on how quickly you can flick through it's pages to get to the appropriate entry... Too bad he didnt read the dude who said "one picture is worth a thousand words" Im pointing out that a self inflicted aloofness or arrogance will always be an Achilles Heel for that particular antagonist. A perceived lack of substance belies what could lay underneath if that surface is scratched hard enough. ...in other words what may appear on the surface to be brief, simple and non eloquent could actually represent a whole library of wisdom and knowledge that wont always appear on a bookshelf or as a lesson in a classroom. Its all about 'spect and the guy that puts himself higher will always have further to fall. Not referring to you in particular Steve but people who generally cast a judgement on other people who they perceive to be less "educated" , "intelligent" or whatever it is that makes one human being feel makes them superior to another. True they may very well be.....but they will always lack the 'spect that goes with it. "Sometimes even the smallest person can change the course of the future" Galadrial <---humble Winky
