Have you been able to audition a DVD and HD on each panel.

IMO, if you can't see a difference in PQ, then go Sung.

Panasonic are often one of the best plasma's, but they've got to be fair dinkum with the price difference, especially when you consider you'll need to also pay for extended warranty for Pana.

Both units look HOT!!!

This is where the marketers have done well. The brand name is swaying me. the supermarkets have done a great job in removing brand recognition, unless its their own brand.

If a generic plasma was out there, made by same company as PAnasonic but with no brand name I wonder how many would consider.

Is samsung made in China, Japan, Korea

Samsung is made in Korea I believe.

I too was set on a panasonic but got swayed to the samsung due to price and the fact that I couldn't tell a lot of difference between the two.

There is a new Samsung model coming out in May and I think this may be why the current ones are so cheap, just be aware that unless the store has stock there may be a problem with supply.

I got my Pana for $500 more, if your spending in the region of $3k for a TV you want to make sure you're going to be 100% happy with it.

Quite a few people (incl salespersons) have told me the Samsung (Korea) is like a Daewoo and Pansonic (Japan) is a Honda.

The Pana also has much better sound, 2xhdmi, a more useful pip, sd card etc.

People have also noted the Sammy has issues with image retention and fast sporting shots - eg tracking a ball

I got my 50" Sammy Delivered Yesterday $2699 + $50 delivery from Preston Powerhouse.

I hooked up my PC and played NFS for hours, Watched some telly and Watched "Time Team" that I downloaded from Auntie Torrent. I have had absoloutley no issues with the sound or Image retention. And it looks bloody great. I haven't seen a proper HD tv show on it yet so I can't comment on the quality of the Digital Reciever/ upconverter (much). Though my first impressions are that my TEAC HD receiver + last gen Pana Rear Pro 47" does a much better job of TV but thats expected from a CRT as it doesn't have aliasing issues.

I'm going to see how the TEAC on the Sammy compares tonight.

I'm keeping my Pana for TV and will be using the plasma for PC and as a backup TV.

If there is stock I would highly recommend buying it!

Samsuing is Korean but the telly is made in China as I would suspect most brands are. And calling it a daewoo is bit rough!

Subby, I had a good look/play with the 50" Sammy in Myer, Bourke St a few weeks ago when the $2699 price came on the scene, there was nothing I could find wrong with it.

If Myer had come to the party on price then I would have bought one there and then, I tried 5 or 6 other places and they couldn't do a similar deal either so I ended up with the Pana and have no regrets whatsoever (until the credit card bill comes - lol)

I didn't take the Daewoo comments too seriously, I have bought 3 iRiver players in the last 5 years all made in Korea/China and they have all worked flawlessly - wouldn't touch LG though

Enjoy!

R-H-C, I had to really push for $2699 at DSE, they had it at a 'Discounted' cost of ~$3300. Luckily I know their policy is to price match on written quotes or advertised prices (this one was in the GG) especially if they know they will need to get rid of them due to a new model comming in!

Originally the TV was going to come from Nunawading but the box had been opened, and the preston manager (Don) refused to accept it, good bloke! (they said they packaged it really well and tried to convince him to send me that one). Instead he got got mine form the Sydney Warehouse. Funnily enough they sold another one in Preston (no idea at what price) and he ended up with 2 comming from sydney at the same time. He admitted that he was lucky to get 'em!

P.S. I wouldn't go near an LG even if someone payed me

Ive got the Samsung 50inch plasma. Its right on 14 days old and im having a small problem. Im fussy but, there seems to be a prob with the image catching up. sometimes on the screen some images get split by horizontal lines and part of the image appears before the rest of the image.

I first noted on the PS3 and thought it might be the HDMI cable. But Ive also noticed this on the inbuilt HD tuner.

PAll, It sounds like a sync problem where the screen is refreshed before an image is ready. Such as when V-sync is turned off in games on a PC.

Perhaps you really lucked out with a dud

I'll look out for it tonight.

They are going to replace it with the new model 50Q9HD 50inch plasma when it is released, as they have no other replacement other than 1 floor stock model that has marks all over it. I can keep this one in the meantime :D

Wixy,

Tell ya mate to make sure its the model with the X on the end as DSE PH tried the same deal with me but it was old stock so was the Ps50q7hd model instead of the Ps50q7hdx.

Good price if its the latest model

It was the hdx. They had it marked down to $3000 and then they had a 15% off sale, so $2550.

Apparently the next day the price went back up to $3400 with 15% off, so I figure they must have realised it was too cheap!
