I saw a new ad for AFL in HD on Ten (something about a 'digital revolution') with all the AFL footage the voiceover guy was doing the whole 'the game has never looked so good' and out of nowhere came something about being avaliable in DD5.1.

Did anybody else see this ad?

seven's future 1080i AFL????

willing to bet it won't happen this year

Prime is going proper HD some time next week as discussed Prime HD Full 1080i one can only assume and hope it will happen with Seven.

not with the AFL, 10 are only doing a few games in HD, seven will turn off the HD channel and up the bit rate on SD as they have with the V8's.

besides as other more qualified people on this forum will tell you AFL in HD on seven with a low bitrate will not be very nice. 10 use stat mux so they have more to play with. I could be very wrong but just cant see 7 doing the AFL in HD.

I understand the fact that seven's HD of AFL won't be that good but at least it is heading in the right direction and I also know that HD AFL won't be on for every game on TEN and Seven.

i know what you mean but the whole point of HD is better quality, if the end result is worse than SD because the equipment cant deliver then whats the point.

but hey, i hope i am wrong and its HD and looks good

Ten are doing 27 out of 49 games in HD... so that's more than 50%

There were rumors that 7 were going to suprise us and do HD AFL this year, and I still think there's a chance it might happen - at the very least I think it will happen in time to get the 2008 grand final in HD.

27/49 thats a decent number

Ten have the final this year (they won the coin toss) and its the perfect choice for a HD game

still aint going with the Seven HD rumor though

Wow that is absolutely fantastic news, I have never seen sport in HD and neither 5.1. The game itself alone looks like it will be a beauty and HD and 5.1! Probably as excited to see this as the crows game live @ footy park.

I don't care about AFL in HD, this just means that Ten will do 5.1 movies... then again, with that ugly watermark I will pass. Next...

Well yesterday Gearhouse launched their HD/SD truck, and Gearhouse has the contract to exclusively supply equipment for all of Network 7's OB's.

It uses Sony HDC-1500 HD cameras, a Sony MVS-8000 series vision switcher, with EVS HD XT2's in the tape area.

Here is a link about the launch yesterday

So you never know when 7 will broadcast the AFL in HD.

Hosko does that mean the game will have to be in Sydney if they decide to do AFL in HD!

This is one of the trucks that 7 will use for the AFL all season. The AFL contract was the reason Gearhouse was able to build it. It was only in Sydney for the launch. Having said that there is a difference between using a truck that is available and making sure that one truck is at every friday night match, the later would cost 7 more.

I hope the regional stations pick up this game in HD.

Down here in Tassie we get the game on two stations - Live on Southern Cross at 7pm and Delayed on TDT at 7:30pm. I'm guessing that the game will only be in HD on TDT. If that is the case, i'm torn on what I should do - watch the game live in SD or delayed in HD?

I would imagine the ad itself is SD.

Why would TDT delay it half an hour, Ten Melbourne is taking it live at 7, doesn't TDT usually follow the Melbourne schedule?

Wait and watch it in HD. Southern Cross shouldnt be putting it to air anyway. They are supposed to be a seven station.

TDT normally switch over to Ten Sydney on Saturdays nights during the footy season. The game is on at 7:30pm because Sydney are playing, next weeks game will be on 10:30pm.
