DrP Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 We're all familiar with what happens when you attack our Dear Leader. I had heard that you were sensitive about people defacing your portraits, John Santa.

Steve C Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 The difference is that the Thai people have such profound reverence for their King. D'ya reckon there's that sort of reverence for Mr Howard? If they win the next election, and John doesn't hand the reigns of Government to the Costello, the first defacing of a Howard portrait may well be at Peter's hands!

Yeah ... the other Steve doesn't seem to get the tongue-in-cheek too well! That said ... I'm sure King Bhumipol has earnt a lot more respect in Thailand. For one thing, I doubt he's made half his people ashamed about his performance in an international context! (The Thai "governments" are another kettle of fish entirely!)

For one thing, I doubt he's made half his people ashamed about his performance in an international context! (The Thai "governments" are another kettle of fish entirely!) Many Thai's feel the King should take a more active role with the reigns of Government, but they would never actively acuse him of turning his back on the Thai people. I think they also know that if he did become immersed - even to a slight extent, beyond his historic intervention a few years back... that his position would be compromised. One could almost say, that as an ultimate referee, he's the best damned example of a 'Governor General' that Australia must seek to find if we become a Republic.
Steve C Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 I love Thai food Nothing beats a good Gang Dang eh Mello? Not as keen on Kow Pad though myself...
Santa1503559644 Posted March 29, 2007 Author Posted March 29, 2007 Nothing beats a good Gang Dang eh Mello?Not as keen on Kow Pad though myself... Watch out ... with Mel's "Herpes Heroes" fonts, that reads "Nothing beats a good Gang Bang eh Mello?" ....unless that's what you meant?
mello yello Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Watch out ... with Mel's "Herpes Heroes" fonts, that reads "Nothing beats a good Gang Bang eh Mello?"....unless that's what you meant? That was a D was it? I was going to order a number 69, take away please
Steve C Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 I was going to order a number 69, take away please Not into Won Tons? I guess a number 69 is close. Maybe give Yum Hed a try on it's own next time? I guess you are like me and steer clear of the Gai Pads...
Hussla Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 The Swiss dude got what he deserved, many of those countries they hold their leaders in high regard and respect, it's as bad as the idiots who go to China to protest then complain when they get locked up, or the stupid Yank who went to Singapore vandalised the cars and got lashes for it! Simple respect the laws of the countries your in!

Thudd1503560234 Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Yes Yum Head..... eat in...table down the back or failing that, how about a nice Beef Strokanoff* *genuine entry I saw on a Thai restaurant menu, just below the "Gordon Blur"
Mining Man Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 My favourite was a menu we have on permanent loan from a restaurant in Mexico City. The good ol' Burrito, is very similar to the word for donkey (or ass) - burro. And of course, senorita is to senor what woman is to man. So then, why were we surprised to see on the adjacent english menu, that a burrito is quite simply, a "she-ass". And where does that leave Ms MM, who is more partial to a bit of man-ass?
Santa1503559644 Posted March 30, 2007 Author Posted March 30, 2007 Seen (and forgotten) a few! Only (rather feeble) one I can remember ... (seen on many different mass menus) Crab Sick
Steve C Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 This one from one of the local Thai restaurants is obviously for lovers of "Dancing With the Stars"... Peek Gai Tod. It's apparently an entree - not sure what to. Maybe some Gai Pad Himmapan or a steaming Moo Pad.

On this web page is some interesting information on corpral punnishment in Malaysia. It's a sobering read.
Santa1503559644 Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 And just to show the differences between Thailand's Supreme Being, and our Dear Leader ... Oliver Jufer (aka The Clown) has been pardoned by the King himself! {Wonder if he'll sell his story ... "The King and I"?}
