Aloysius Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 http://optuszoo.news.ninemsn.com.au/articl...amp;_cobr=optus "A fat, satisfied workaholic who enjoys spending and technology, and who wouldn't trust oil companies as far as they could throw 'em. That's the latest snapshot of the average Australian. Australians are more satisfied with their lives than ever before, according to a new consumer report, which labels 2007 as the year of feeling comfortable, but also of tough choices. It's found 63 per cent of Australians are either very satisfied or extremely satisfied with their lives, topping the previous national high of 60 per cent in the post-Sydney Olympics boom in 2001." Any of my fellow forum members feeling like an average Australian? An interesting report nonetheless.

OK, just for you! *I'm not fat! *I am not obssessed with spending for spending's sake. *I am not obsessed with technology, and am usually "over it" before many ever discover it. *I'm reasonably comfortable, as are many in the China boom (however my comfort comes from pre-boom fruits). *Yes, I notice more and more people working longer hours, and not enjoying it.

I'm Fat I'm not obsessed with spending - though I do like to I'm not comfortable at the moment. I work long hours, and don't enjoy it I must be one of the 37%, having said that I love my life, just woudn't mind being a bit more "Comfortable" than what I am. Ask me again in 5 years. Am I happy? yes, Am I satisfied? not yet, but I am working on it
Mining Man Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 ~*I am not obsessed with technology, and am usually "over it" before many ever discover it. ~ Ah, but if you're "over it" before the masses discover it, then you've obviously got your finger well and truly on the pulse of technology. Obsessed? Perhaps not. But let's at least call it a heightened interest!!
Aloysius Posted March 29, 2007 Author Posted March 29, 2007 I guess a fair while ago I reached the conclusion that not many of my fellow forum members would be, and even more importantly, admit to being - "average"

Obsessed? Perhaps not. But let's at least call it a heightened interest!! OK. I am interested, check it out, but don't obsess. In fact, it really gets me how obsessive many kids these days do get about technology. (Often the same humourless bozos who are the Sci-Fi Fanatics.)

Mining Man Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 ~In fact, it really gets me how obsessive many kids these days do get about technology. (Often the same humourless bozos who are the Sci-Fi Fanatics.) And how often is it purely the marketing of technology that sucks them in?!?! (rhetorical question, of course) Hang on. Are we talking about kids? You mean those guys in the BD / HD DVD subforum lied about their ages?
Aloysius Posted March 29, 2007 Author Posted March 29, 2007 Well, personally, I'd having trouble trying to find any criteria on which I'm average, in the land of Howard and BB. I'm sure you would have trouble, wherever you were
DrP Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Optus AND NineMSN. Now there's a combination that'll show up all the news that really matters.
Steve C Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Any of my fellow forum members feeling like an average Australian? How much are they? Do you provide them with extras? I'd actually prefer an exceptional Australian, so if there's any of those on offer... I won't say no. How does one determine the average Australian? We take exceptionally gifted yet amazingly trim Aussie individuals who've worked a bit and complain a lot, then a whole bunch of obesely large lard bellied, vacuum brained Australians who are happy as long as the missus still puts out, but prefer being at work to being harrassed by their obnoxious kids at home; and after mathematically averaging these extremes and all the shades of grey in-between we end up with "fat satisfied workaholic". Yay! Australia leads the World in developing a population consisting of gullible drones without the physical capabilities to even defend themselves! I used to consider myself average, but this new evidence now proves my self analysis is staggeringly inappropriate. I'm so saddened to find that I've been evicted from the ranks of the Aussie 'average', simply because I'm neither fat nor a workaholic. Who can I sue?
Mining Man Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 ... I'm neither fat nor a workaholic. Who can I sue? Sue? Sounds too much like hard work Steve...
Steve C Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Sue? Sounds too much like hard work Steve... Nah... There's bound to be a "fat, satisfied workaholic" solicitor who'll retain an equally rotund barrister to do the dirty stuff for me. Cases of this sort of discrimination are their 'bread and butter' or more correctly 'beef in a white wine sauce'.
Mining Man Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 ... or more correctly 'beef in a white wine sauce'. Yep, you can tell you're no fatty. I believe it's a grain fed eye fillet in a red wine jus. :burp:
Steve C Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Yep, you can tell you're no fatty.I believe it's a grain fed eye fillet in a red wine jus. :burp: Please; I'm lard challenged! Mustn't forget our marvelous Politically Correct Aussie values. It must be difficult for you now that you're habitating in 'that' land of simplistic bluntness. BTW, how does one feed grain to an eye fillet? It'd be a cow of a job...
Mcrackn Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 I'm overweight, like where I'm working now - but doesn't mean I don't want to go home, I like saving so I can spend on better things, I work with new technology and am interested but think everything I would like is way overpriced so I won't buy it, and don't trust oil companys who want me to sell my Kingswood and buy a more economical car. And I am definitely not satisfied.... with anything. Anyone else care to edit my grammar?
Skid_MacMarx Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Any of my fellow forum members feeling like an average Australian? An interesting report nonetheless. I think this thread actually "says" more about Aloysius, and his education under dictator Joh, encoraging the cane toads to read "tabloids" over "broadsheets" Its a shame you didn't scratch the surface and actually found who commissioned and who presented these so-called "facts.".. Furthermore, what methodology was utilised to draw these conclusions.. and what agenda would there be in promoting these figures... According to the Eye on Australia report, married people are more satisfied with their lives than single people, while the pre-baby boomers (those aged over 62) are the happiest age bracket. http://optuszoo.news.ninemsn.com.au/articl...amp;_cobr=optus .. Sweeney Research has again conducted the study as they have since its inception in 1992. Nearly 8,000 Australians have been interviewed over the 15 years. Every year Grey’s Eye on Australia throws up an imposing army of statistics and trends and this year there are some very clear implications for marketers. Santa1503559644 Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 And talk about drivel ... "Our objective: to fuse a new generation of integrated agency. One that operates outside the boundaries of traditional specialist agency silos by integrating strategy, creative and execution around our collective strengths. Greymatter5, 2006 http://www.grey3.com.au/grey3/aboutus/ Skid - if you try really hard you may be able to avoid bringing personal attacks into your posts - there is nothing to attack - I'm a really nice person - not average, but definitely very happy with my life - I threaten no one so bash your personal comments someplace the sun don't shine - OK? What a depressing take on life some of my sad fellow forum members have - lighten up - this is your life - don't waste it on whinging and whining - be happy
Skid_MacMarx Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 More an attack on Joh, Aloysius I suppose it depends on what you mean by "interesting" I find the methodology and agenda behind the article "depressing" "sad".... not my life.. I always question the motives of those who argue what actions, etc should be considered "normal." Are these articles addressing teenagers? ... hey what is normal?.. Am I average? The sad fact is: the range of actions etc, which are considered "normal," is shrinking... you don't need to go further than this forum, to see what happens if you go "against the grain" of the current orthodoxy

Abnormal is doing or being extraordinary. I would have thought that it was the 'average' figure that could shrink or swell rather than the 'normal' range...
