I am in the market for a 96" fixed frame screen and Screen Science was one brand recommended by Len Wallis Audio. I rang Screen Science direct to work out if grey would be better for my HT set-up. Not being a shy type asked if I could buy direct from them. They initially said only through resellers and gave me two in my area(not LWA ??) but then said they had some demo and factory seconds they would sell to me with a minor ding in the frame. These were about half price ($650 V $1249 from LWA.) Asked about screen surface flaws and they guaranteed that all screen surfaces were perfect, only frame marks if any. Has anybody bought one, how much and what was the condition ?

I own a 90" SS Digital Gray fixed screen and am very happy with it. Highly recommended. Have a look at my previous posts about it.

I paid $900 about a year ago for a brand new one.

Thanks folks, sounds like they're very good when first quality but still a bit nervous. Hopefully someone has tried a demo/f.second from this mob.

As you folk are happy with the brand and they have said the screen surface is OK I have decided to try it. Will let you know if it,s a dud though.

My 96" silver grey screen was delivered yesterday and I put it up last night. Chucked my DIY MDF rolled matt ceiling white bit of crap. The guy at Screen Science said there was a small chip on the frame @ 1300h but we couldn't find it. It came as a big flat pack as the screen is a hard surface but what is really weird is it only weighs about 7kgs !?!. My MDF, same size, weighs about 20kgs. Anyone know what they use ? Took me longer to unpac it than it did to put up ie about 10min.

Fired up the Pana 500E and the picture brightness and def immediately blew us away. Very black blacks and good colour repro. Just can't believe the difference. Have been close to buying a proper screen heaps but have put up with the DIY for 2 years.. idiot. Ended up costing $678 including delivery, yeessss.

Ken, ocujos thanks again for the recommendation, very happy chappy

No probs, I'm glad I could help.

My experience was exactly the same after projecting on an off white wall for two weeks (while waiting for my screen to arrive)

They wouldn't tell me when I asked. I guess it's a trade secret.

It took me 15min to install it. The extra time was spent to get the level 100% right

Mystery solved, I rang Screen Science direct and got on to their tech fella and the answer on what the screen is made from is.... drum roll..... multi layered thermoplastic polymer...whatever that is !

apparently has lots of good stuff that keeps the surface well flat forever.

Ouch!

That must be a manufacturer's defect. I've had my for 1.5Yr and the surface is still perfectly flat.

See what the dealer says and if they don't help contact SS directly. I remember calling them a few times and they had great customer service.

I got one last week and had a minor issue with the bottom of the screen kicking out. Not sure if your prob is the same but worth mentioning. I worked out that the mounting bar was too tight to the wall and pulled the one bottom corner out from the wall. I put a couple of small washer between the wall and the bracket through the screws and re mounted the screen - voilà prob solved. My screen also had two locking tabs with mechanical velcro at the bottom corners that stuck the screen tight against the wall. I just had to peel the backing off the tabs and push each corner hard against the wall behind. Hope this helps

thanks for the advice, I had seen the tabs and read the instruction notes but havent panted the room yet (will finish today yeh!!) so didnt want to stick tabs on til then but will try couple of washers good idea - cheers
