Could you please give me more information on the following story (are we having a channel 7 digital only channel in reigonal SA. if so will that have today tonight and when will it happen)

In connection to WIN SA, I think undeserved would be a more fitting reference at times. For years we had just Channel 8 & 5A which being only the one station had a limited amount of time for programming. Even so they managed to show a good range of output from all the commercial networks. With the advent of WIN Ten we now have two commercial networks but no programming from the Seven network. At the time of the switchover all Seven programming was dropped when WIN SA switched to a direct WIN (Nine) feed. This was even though there was still about three episodes to go from memory to the season finales of shows such as All Saints. The comment from local WIN management was that no one was interested in any Seven network programmes! I know that it is a commercial decision on their part, but it shows a high degree of arrogance and disregard for viewers which in my opinion is a compelling arguement against monopoly commercial broadcasters in these days of standardised network programming.

Thankfully those of us near enough to the border can receive Prime Victoria, although the signal on digital is excellent, it is not totally reliable. In the early days of aggregation there was talk of aggregating Adelaide with Regional SA. Although not ideal it would have led to the provision of all three networks to all South Australians many years ago.

Hopefully with Seven/Ten gaining AFL rights we will gain Seven even if it is as a digital channel only.

Rubbish, what a lame excuse from WIN, given that Seven is killing Nine in the ratings at the moment. I feel for you 'Dodgy' and I know where you are coming from, we had to put with something similar in Mildura for many years. Pre July 1997 when WIN was the sole commercial TV station, it would basically only broadcast Channel 9 content, with little or no outsourcing from Seven and Ten what-so-ever.

Given that South Australia is such a small market, it probably would make sense to merge Adelaide and SA regionals into one. Only problem is you would be guaranteed to lose any local content. Probably why it has never eventuated.

STV8 Mildura had a much broader range of programs before about 1991. It was about then they dropped the non-Nine programs. If memory serves, it was while it was branded Vic TV, and ENT may have still owned it. So the situation is more similar to that of SE SA and the Riverland than you might think.

True, I do recall that. I think you will find that STV8 was owned/run by the Southern Cross Network where we had as you say 'a much broader range'. That was until Vic TV took it over in early 1990. From that time we began to lose programming from 7 and 10 where it became almost non-existent towards 1992 (around the time of aggregation in Victoria).

BOY have we come a long way since.
