Sony was still rolling out new BRAVIA's this morning, with three new models in its Japanese X2550 line that should give a preview of the successors to the current XBR models we'll see here. The piano black finished LCDs all feature 1080p resolution, wide color gamut backlighting, BRAVIA Engine and Sony's new x.v.Color technology, and we assume, dual HDMI 1.3-compatible inputs to deliver all that many-hued madness.

No mention of new 120Hz technology for these LCDs, but the expanded color space should match up well with other upcoming Sony products. All should start shipping April 25th the 52-inch KDL-52X2550 for 720,000 yen ($6,098 U.S.), 46-inch KDL-46X2550 for 490,000 yen ($4,150U.S.), and 40-inch KDL-40X2550 for 420,000 yen ($3,557 U.S.). Check after the break for another pic of that glossy finish head-on (apply directly to forehead).

With a stright conversion for Australia:

52" = $7,566.06 AUD

46" = $5,148.94 AUD

40" = $4,412.60 AUD

The prices for America are pretty much spot on for what the X series released over there for originally, then there was a decent price drop a few months after release. We saw the exacte same thing here in Aus, so I can only assume the same thing will happen.

The Black Bezel is very very tempting, since all my Home Entertainment equipment is Black... :blink:

The remote looks alot like the PS3's Bluray Remote...

It was obvious with the recently announced price drops that something was coming.

Well, thats annoying. :blink: as a person that was just about to leap (in the next month or two) into the current x-series... the question arrives..

...do i wait......?

Well, as someone who just bought a 46" X-series on Saturday, it is a little annoying. However, it is inevitable with these TVs that there will be something bigger and better every 6 months.

Got my 46" for $4660 from JB Hifi. Looked like a good price to me, so grabbed it. Fantastic TV!

There was a 10% drop in the RRP price coming in April - someone mentioned it in a previous thread. It follows suit too, because video pro have just dropped all their prices, and my understanding is they get a head start on all the others because they own the sony central line.

WOW that is quick, I only got wind of the price drops 2 days ago. I expected something as DJ got 200 in and they only do that on a big spree.

I suspect x2550 is x2 series without backlight issue TBH.

I was going in next week to pick one up now do I wait?

5.3k vs 4.6k hmm

Annoying isn't it! :blink: We need further information!!!! i.e... has the cloud situation been addressed, does the contrast improve or is it faster than 8ms.... the three biggy's.

Mind you, i've seen the current x-series.. it's beautiful.. so is that good enough?? arrrgh!! someone make up my mind for me.:D

+1 here.

Also, sorry if this is a newbie question, but here goes. I understand the BRAVIA X2550 will have x.v.Color - which is utilised for HDMI 1.3. So if I'm only using the TV and watching FTA, will there be 'more detail/colours' than the X series already out in the market?

Edit: Additionally, with the imminent release of the X2550, would it be right to assume that the current X series will be discontinued, so prices could fall further in the coming months?

I guess the question is, what happened to the v-series when the x-series turned up? I wasn't on these boards then, so am not sure..but you could draw parallels between then and now. anybody?

Why is it only $700 extra to go from 40" to 46" but it's $2400 to go from 46" to 52" ?

Both are 6" increases.

Do they want everyone to buy the 46" model or something?

yeah odd isn't it. If the 52" was 5500-6000 I'd get that one but not at over 7k, I'd stick to the 46.

with those prices, Expect to have abit added on for shipping and tax...

I would expect them to have RRP very similar to the current X-Series range

52" = $7,566.06 AUD = $7999 RRP?

46" = $5,148.94 AUD = $5499 RRP?

40" = $4,412.60 AUD = $4499 RRP?

But then agian... Samsung are releasing new panels here and have already done so overseas with great specs and get prices to match. They have also been getting very good reviews... might force sony to rethink their pricing?

I have just got a 46" x series. It is beautiful.

The colours are amazing. Skin tones are perfect and other colours are vibrant. Heaven knows what more the new range can offer on colour.

I am not aware of a contrast problem. When properly set up, contrast is great too. I was not aware of a problem with contrast. From what I have read, it probably has the best contrast when it comes to LCD screens.

As for the cloud issue, I wonder if it is a real issue. I did not detect any problem with leaking or uneven image brightness. However, last night I did turn off all the lights, put on a blank screen and did pick up an unevenness of brlghtness. However, as soon as you put on an image, you cannot detect any problem, even in the very dark parts of the image.

i think manufacuring costs are much higher on the 52 than the 46

also freight is an issue when the box is bigger less of them in the container so the costing gets affected drect exchange rate is wrong we import 40 million a year of **** and it's amazing how much an extra 6 inches adds to the cost.

To buy or not to buy....................that is the question (sorry Bill).

The way I look at there is always a "new" model just around the corner, in LCD speak that's seems to be every 8 months or so.

1. If you buy one when they are released you pay the highest price

2. If you wait 4 months or so, you get a good discount and save say 20% to 30%

3. If you wait until the "new" model is released then you might save say 50% on the "old" model

Meanwhile the "new" model is at the highest price

So when do you buy?

People who want the latest and greatest buy at #1, price is irrelevant to them

People who want the latest and greatest but aren't prepared to pay the launch price wait buy at #2, price is relevant to them but so is the technology.

People to whom price is most relevant buy at #3 and enjoy the fact that they paid half price.

The only reason I, personally, would go for #1 in this case was if the "old" model had some major deficiency that the "new" model was guaranteed to fix. Since that is not the case on this occasion, I would buy one now at the cheapest price I could find.

:blink: cheers :D

There is always a new model around the corner, lets face it. While this news is not surprising, I am more than happy with my 46" x that i paid $4500 for back in December.

Its a great panel and anyone considering getting one should. If you wait for the next model then you will be forever waiting.

I personally prefer the silver bezel and design of the current model. Its classy...

Since this is a USA release later this month, does that mean we will probably be seing this TV towards the end of the year over in AUS?

my father in law works at a big retail outlet and can get me a 46" for $4400 which is their cost.

Soooo tempted....but should I wait?

argh!

Thats what im trying to work out!

If the new model is not going to be released in AUS for 3-6 months, then i dont think its worth the wait, and would buy an "old (ie current) model" but i cant find any info anywhere stating when its due for release in AUS :blink:
