franin Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 I have a pair of b&w 704's and now have been previously introduced to the Hyperboloids series from Aaron. The 600 series is meant to be there flagship series but do any of you recommend in trading my 704's which I think are very great for the HMF 600? Im getting there bipole surrounds which are the HSS-600 and HSS-300(Direct radiating) for the surround backs.I have to admit the bipole ones have more guts than my DS6 S3, so that I don't have a problem in changing them but Im very happy with the B&W 704 I don't want to spend more money without really being much of an upgrade or maybe a downgrade.

Audition at home is the only way you will know for sure.
wheelz Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Franin if you do upgrade let me know,i may be interested in your 704's
franin Posted March 28, 2007 Author Posted March 28, 2007 Audition at home is the only way you will know for sure. they use the vifa speakers apparentley they are meant to be good.
franin Posted March 28, 2007 Author Posted March 28, 2007 Franin if you do upgrade let me know,i may be interested in your 704's Thats the thing I want to know if it's worth upgrading or not.
betty boop Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Audition at home is the only way you will know for sure. thats the best thing to do and compare with speakers you have to decide which is best.
Guest JohnA Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 if you are going to upgrade from the 704 go for the 703's instead i auditioned both when i fist started looking and the 703 with its fst midrange is miles ahaid of the 704 Seriously though, only you can decide if the upgrade is worth it. Try for a home audition to listen to them side by side
franin Posted March 28, 2007 Author Posted March 28, 2007 I cannot upgrade to the 703 as it can't fit into my custom built cabinet. But what I want to know is the quality of the Aaron hyperbolid series is just as good as the B&W 704.They sound very nice but my concern is they won't die on me in the future.Nothing bad as listening and finding your tweeter not going anymore.I've been referred to them by the installer saying there very great, and they do sound very good but can they handle the pace in time without dying on me.
Guest JohnA Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 not to be rude, but forget about what your installer told you. He's not the one that has to live with them, and for you to purchase a pair of speakers because someone told you so is silly. Will they die?? no descent speaker will die, unless you abuse it. I have hard of tweeters failing on $30k speakers, nothing is full proof
Drizt Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Negotiate very hard on the price of the aarons. The reason retailers love selling them is because they have great margins on them.... just a tip.

Cant comment on sound quality FRANIN; but the pdf says the tweeters have a dual suspension which would help cut down distortion delivered to the diaphragms in an overload. The polyester imide voice coil wire sounds like it would disperse heat effectively too.Couldnt find a reference to an inline tweeter fuse but these supposedly colour sound anyway.Ask the dealer how tightly the voice coil is wound[what tolerances] and if the tweeters are ferro fluid cooled or air cooled. If he cant explain the difference I'de find it hard to trust him
Shik1503561304 Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 Hey guys hate to rebump an old thread but I am in a situation here where I have been quoted the same price for the high end aarons vs the B&W 704s. I was not able to listen to them back to back but I did listen to the difference between the 703 and 704 and I found it to be huge. I listened to the B&W 683 vs the 704 and I found the 683 to sound better even. interested in anyone else with similar experiences?

Hey Shik I used to have a pair of B&W 704 and found them to be very nice for music.I can't comment on the 683 but i really cannot see how here better than the 704's especially for music. But if you they sound good to you thats the main thing. The aarons HMF 600 were very nice also but I found the B&W had the edge in music, I actually own the HCC 600 and the HSS 600 but opted for the focal electra 936 for mains which I found suited me much better.

I listened to music on the 683/703/704 back to back and was surprised I could pick the difference as I'm a total amateur. Maybe I was brainwashed my purpose is almost 100% home theatre so i'm still not sure if the aarons will be as good / better for that purpose.
franin Posted January 2, 2008 Author Posted January 2, 2008 Aarons will be!What you need to do is take a copy of your favourite film and listen to them individually and don't listen to the salesman as sometime thre full of S...! You be the judge.
