Nova Phoenix Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Since my other topic in the off-topic forum is being spammed by silly children, I've decided to move it here. For fun, I wanna know what the most expensive gear for a HT is. TV, av receiver, speakers - everything! And please, keep this serious. The other topic wasn't and I want this one to be.
AndrewW Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Calling Gino ... Come in Gino ... Your assistance is required Andrew.
50mxe20 Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Once Gino, JohnA and Norpus chime in there will be nothing left for the rest of us to say anything. I hesitate to start.
Guest EZYHD Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 How about some very expensive HT's... http://gallery.andreas.id.au/home_theatre.html
50mxe20 Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 How about some very expensive HT's...http://gallery.andreas.id.au/home_theatre.html LOL. I went looking for that but you beat me to it.
quijibo Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Not only are most of thos obviously stupidly expensive, but most of them are ridculously ugly too. Why spend all that money to make a room look awful when you are going to sit in the dark in there anyway? I've ssen some really cool simple modern designs on AVS forum that were kept simple, look elegant and aren't tacky. ... Mind you it might be jealousy as I have paid less than $5k and sit in the basement of my house with painted brick walls, shag pile carpet and a few old ugly rugs on the walls so I probably shouldn't be commenting in this thread.
Guest EZYHD Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 LOL. I went looking for that but you beat me to it. and its dam hard beating you Lyle!

Mine, some think is overdone but hell we get some great comments about it and we get oodles of visitors.

JoshH Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 We are way behind the USA when it comes to spending big $ on home theatre equipment. Mostly its just a demographic and population thing - meaning when you have 300+ million ppl in your country there are going to be a lot of millionaires to spend big $ on theatre. Bottom line - you can spend as much as you can lay your hands on - and way beyond equipment. There is decore, design, furnishings, acoustical treatments etc. A lot of items dont even get considered by 99% of ppl - e.g What about a hush box for that projector to keep it under 20db or less? The result will dramatically improve the audio experience when you dont hear the fan during quiet movie passages. An increase in theatre performance without upgrading the electronics! Some of the best looking and sounding theatres I have done use modest equipment [say 50k budget on equipment for everything] - but then they spend another 30 odd k on decore, accoustical treatment etc. to maximise the experience. Some of the worst theatres I have seen use super high end equipment with no thought as to design or acoustics - net result = poor quality theatre. Back on topic though - expensive doesnt always mean good. Even relativley inexpensive gear can yield spectacular performance if properly integrated. Edit - I do recall reading somewhere about some mentally priced cable - I think it was from Transparent audio - price was in the tens of thousands for a 3 metre pair *shakes head*
Gino Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Somebody rang? What exactly do you want to know? There are I'm sure lots of products that you could purchase for the ht that are worth insane amounts of money. I spent a fair amount, but I think I still got bang for my buck.

Are you going to make up your mind.....you started the other thread you are talking about with the words "Just for fun"... Just for fun, please tell me what the most expensive items are in home theatre. TV, av receiver, speakers, and anything else that contributes to the home theatre experience. And you got a few fun answers...from a few Senior Members who contributed to your "just for fun" And now you want to be serious?..or you want us to have read your mind and expected to be serious. WTF are you on about? We post off topic and general topics in The Off Topic Forum for a reason...so that all that general stuff doesnt clog up this part of the forum.... ...you posted your topic there..thats what you can expect. You have slighted quite a few regular contibutors by your childish little actions and I think you should pop over there and offer a little apology before you carry on. I told you the most expensive part of my home theatre is my Exide Battery...I paid 98 ****ing bucks for that battery..is that serious enough.
