Promo on Nine Melbourne in prime time last night:

"This week we exclusively reveal the results of Sam Newman's controversial Botox treatment. The Footy Show... DON'T MISS IT!"

Sad, sad, sad, sad, sad, sad, SAD. And pathetic.

Not even the NRL Footy Show is that bad. Maybe that's why the NRL show has won the logie over the AFL show for the last couple of years.

The AFL show could get some new jokes too. I think the "We havn't seen Sam since <insert event here> and then he shows up <hungover, high on drugs etc.>" is a tad worn out.

It's just a response from the bagging Sam's copped over the past few years from players on the show.

It's not as trashy as it seems. Well, not if you've been vaguely following the show for the past few years.

It's still the best Nine have at the moment, along with the cricket. If it wasn't for these two programs, I wouldn't watch Nine at all.

Crime shows sh!t me to tears - I used to be HUGE fan of NYPD Blue, but it even got repetitive & lost its way after about 4-5 seasons. It's surprised me that these CSI shows have been around so long in prime-time, especially since there are about 3 flavours of them only differing in their locations.

Which regular viewers would already know about, while those who don't watch would not. So why advertise an in-joke?

It's not as trashy as it seems. Well, not if you've been vaguely following the show for the past few years.

The entire show redefines trashy, along with embarrassing, misguided, and pathetic.

The point I was making was that this program is titled THE FOOTY SHOW, yet the only way Nine seems to think they can attract viewers is via the cosmetic enhancements done to a boorish, obnoxious, vile bogan. Stunning television, isn't it?

Anything good that Nine has the rights to is buried deep in the vaults, and of course any of those I've been interested in has been "illegally" downloaded long, long ago. "Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip", for example. Would I trust Nine to actually show the thing? HELL NO! So I've already seen the first 16 episodes while everyone else will have to wait for the months before they lose the rights, and stay up till 2am to see it.

Indeed it did, but it was stunning drama for a while there; and I do think that part of the reason for me losing interest in it was its mistreatment by the local broadcaster. These days, if they pulled a show with no info on when it would return, I would have no recourse. Now, I get to "illegally" download shows that get screwed around, and I've never felt prouder about breaking the "law".

It's surprised me that these CSI shows have been around so long in prime-time, especially since there are about 3 flavours of them only differing in their locations.

And every episode is exactly the same. But that's what Nine's audience wants. They have the attention span of an ADD child, the memory of a goldfish and the taste of a fast food addict. The very idea of a "story arc" for their audience is like asking them to pronounce "nuclear" correctly

Sounds just like me...and even I can't stand the shows...:D

I would have to agree though about the crime shows, I can't stand them. Unfortunately I have to abide by parents rules, not to download illegally. Will feel like I am missing something when I have ADSL2+ soon.

hmm, so unless your heavy into on-line gaming, whats the point of getting ADSL2, even with 2-3 ppl web browsing and emailing at the same time, a 1500 plan would likely do the trick.

And on the subject of the topic, I have no interest in the Sam Newman ego show, or footy at all for that matter, but I guess there must be enough sad, pathetic 'big brother generation' ppl around now that the TV stations can get their required numbers and advertisers will pay to put their rubbish (and in some cases lying ) ads in the middle of crap like this. It makes you wonder what the real 'upper class' must think, since I'm pretty forgiving as it is. But then I guess those sort of ppl don't even watch any FTA TV (if they own one at all), and hence have no idea whats going on.

ADSL2 is generally cheaper when it comes to your download limit/$. When TPG activate my exchange i'll be able to upgrade to ADSL2 for $10/month less but with 5GB more download limit.

I believe this is because suppliers are installing their own equipment to the exchange and don't have to pay Telstra for the access - they make more profit and thus can lower the price.

ok, guess it all just depends on your current plan and speed. Personally I can live with 512/128, especailly when i can get 30GB a month for $50, pretty sure no ADSL2 plan comes close, still this is going rather off topic, we will return shortly to the Sam Newman sideshow for the mentally challenged.

No - this is to offer relief from the crud that Channel Nine broadcasts. People stumble in here expecting a stupid thread about an utterly moronic show and instead get an intelligent debate on broadband prices.

Why is ADSL2 important? Because it makes *ahem* 'sourcing' intelligent program material to watch instead of the Footy Show just that much faster...

(In SA, for ADSL2 Adam does 20GB for $55 and Internode does 20GB for $60 - it just depends what exchange you're on, and trust me, 512 feels like dialup compared to ADSL2)

I'm sure it does, but then I download most of the time (overnight, during working hours) when I'm not even home to use the computer. Besides, as it is, I have way too much to watch anyway, so paying $5-$10 more, for 10GB less just to get it faster while I'm not there isn't all that interesting (quota free local peering data doesn't hurt either :D .

Now, to check the hard drive for tonights viewing

I've always had a pretty broad sense of humour, so I guess i'll have to agree to disagree with most people here when it comes to Sams jokes.

Favourite comedies of all-time are Seinfeld & The Late Show (ABCs D-generation) followed by Futurama or The Simpsons.

Yeah. Cutting out the middle-man means better value for the consumer.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm on a 512 plan, and it takes on average about 3-4 hours to, *ahem*, make a typical TV episode availble. Since I can do that unattended overnight/during the day when nobody else is using it, and we'd only watch 3-4 shows per week that require said intervention, then I'm not going to pay more to get less quota at a higher speed that makes no practical difference.

When the 2+ plans start approaching within $5-10 of my current plan while keeping enough quota, then I'll look at swapping just for the extra browsing speed.
