Moasaica Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Hi Guys If you get a chance to listen to the 80s channel on Air on foxtel it plays a lot of 80 classics you don't hear on radio... I think Vega/MMM/WS should take a listen and hear real variety. Matt I wish I could afford to get Foxtel (digital of course). My parents & myself are happy enough on just having ABC, Seven, Nine, Ten, SBS & TVS (Sydney's community TV station), so getting Foxtel in my home is out of the question. However, I'll be going down to Hobart for a week in early July & where I'll be staying, they have cable TV (Austar), so I'll probably experience Air Radio whilst there. On the topic of 80s music, Melbourne has a decent 80s music program on FM radio titled "Totally 80s", which is heard on Gold 104 after "The 20-1 Countdown", depending what year is covered in the countdown, ie. if a 70s year is covered in the countdown, "Totally 80s" is heard; if an 80s year is covered, then "Living in the 70s" is heard. WS-FM, Gold 104 & 4KQ takes its own syndicated program titled "The Night Show" from 10pm weeknights (including Sundays), which has started recently. Musically, it's nothing special, with the networked playlist sourced from WS-FM. The exception to the rule is Fridays, when "The 20-1 Countdown" covers an 80s year & follows with "Totally 80s" straight after, but is still finishing at 10pm to make way for "The Night Show". Despite the recent developments, re 10pm Sundays-Fridays, I'm still jealous that Melbourne has a better Classic Hits station than Sydney does. From what I detected of its "now playing" feature on their website, Gold 104 plays a number of 80s songs that is not heard on any major Sydney commercial FM stations, not even on 2GO or Wave FM. In conclusion, the best 80s music program in Melbourne is found in Melbourne, which is Gold 104's "Totally 80s". By contrast, in Sydney, it is not found in Sydney, it is found on the Central Coast, which is 2GO's "Awesome 80s", aired at 12pm weekdays. 2GO can be heard in many parts of Sydney most, if not, all the time. Sorry that I've gone off-topic from something about Foxtel/Austar's Air Radio, but I'm making a valid point there.

Unfortunately, Motels/Hotels tend to decode a few of the austar/foxtel channels, then send them to all the units on certain analogue RF channels, so no interactivity is available, and AIR is interactive only.

Okay then. I've just checked Austar's Air Radio channel listings here (page 2 of the PDF file) & there's no dedicated 80s music channel there, unlike on Foxtel. Anyway, it doesn't matter now, given the above on what I've just said. Mgaleano, I take it that you have Foxtel yourself, is that right?

Mgaleano, I take it that you have Foxtel yourself, is that right? Yes I have optus foxtel. My amp blew up last night on my hifi so I decided to listen to the air channel on TV. The 80s channel is good. An example is the play is Your latest trick by Dire Straits and another Toto song other than Africa/Hold the Line/Rosanna. I am trying to think of another track they played. They played some "popular 80s songs" as well.
Moasaica Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 (edited) I wish I could afford to get Foxtel (digital of course). My brother has gotten himself Foxtel quite recently. I'm at his place at the moment & I'm sampling some of the audio channels on Air Radio. Some of my favourite audio channels include 80s, 70s, Jukebox, New Wave & Home Grown. If I had Foxtel myself, I wouldn't really bother with terrestrial radio (AM/FM) much at home, be it online or through a radio. Although when on the move, I would still listen to terrestrial radio. And the music video channels are pretty good too, especially Max, [V], [V]2 & VH1. Looks like I'll have to work for it through my future job on being able to afford Foxtel. Which is quite silly since its available to anyone with their Austar card in a 3rd party receiver. If you want decent sound quality though you'd be better off listening to a dedicated 80's internet radio station. The 96k MP3 stream from that page is far superior to the sound via AIR.

Don't Austar call it the NEW WAVE Channel ???? It's all 80's
