datvman Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 In Brisbane: - Nova still No.1 with 15.2%, up from 13.6 - Triple M No.2 with 12.2, down from 12.4 - 4BC 3rd with 10.7, up 1.7 - 973FM now 4th, with 9.6, down from 10.3 - 4BH-882 now 5th, and took the biggest growth, now 9.2 up from 7.4 - B105 now 6th with 8.7, up from 8.3 - 612ABC Brisbane comes in 7th place with 8.2, down from 9.2 - Triple J comes in 8th place with 6.6, down from 7.7 - 4KQ comes in 9th place with 5.9, down from 6.7 These figures mean that 4KQ needs to be on FM. AM does this station no justice. And its really a halfway point between 882 which is easy listening and mostly 60's music, and MMM which is mostly 70's and 80's rock. B105 needs to restructure, and urgantly. These guys had something like 18% or something that. Interesting to note how this station went downhill after Jamie Dunn and Ian Skippen left.

I agree about converting 4KQ to FM but then I think about 2CH and it now beats FM stations easily. Stations also tend to become more modern and drop longer news bulletions. 2WS stayed similar when converted to FM. However it then slowly started to change. Now its breakfast show sounds like a typical FM breakfast show. I bet if WS was still AM now it would play a lot more 60s music and would have a different breakfast show. I agree it should convert but remain with the same format.
Moasaica Posted March 28, 2007 Author Posted March 28, 2007 I agree about converting 4KQ to FM but then I think about 2CH and it now beats FM stations easily. Stations also tend to become more modern and drop longer news bulletions. Same story with 4BH in Brisbane, who beat B105 in Brisbane & Cruise 1323, who beat Triple M in Adelaide. I bet if WS was still AM now it would play a lot more 60s music and would have a different breakfast show. I agree. Also, 2WS would still be a Western Sydney station, rather than being a Sydney-wide station. I agree it should convert but remain with the same format. In today's competitive market, WS-FM has to modernise their playlist, as they don't want to grow old with their audience. 2WS's audience of 10 years ago are now more likely to be listening to 2CH for music & their 55+ audience share proves it. Given the right owners, maybe 2SM would go with a 60s/70s oldies format & have that format 24/7. The networked programming heard on Caralis' stations would then originate from 2HD Newcastle instead.
