nonny Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Hi Guys, Needing to tap into some much needed advice here... After loosing my current AV receiver and speaker setup (case of the ex) Im needing to purchase a new substitute at a budget cost. I've got a 10x8 room with a Panny AE700 projector which is mainly used for gaming (Xbox360) and films/dvd... no audiophile here. For the AV Receiver I've basically made my mind up on the Yamaha RXV-1700B, would go for the 2700 but my budget isnt going to stretch that far. The main sticking point in the speakers. I've already done a search on these forums and found Dream Hi-Fi to not be held in very high regard for music in general but I was wondering if anyone had any further comments specifically for gaming/dvd/hd-dvd? As I said Im no audiophile so Im not looking for the ultimate setup but was mainly looking at the higher end dream hi-fi stuff such as the "Dream 88" speaker sets on ebay for around $600. Am I fooling myself into thinking these are any better quality than the lower end stuff? Are all the dream hi-fi models pretty much sub-par POS or are the higher end ones better bang for buck? Failing all this Im not past waiting a few months and saving some more hard earned for more respected brands. I should also note Im looking to source a half-decent Sub away from these speakers at a later date so anything in the $500-$800ish price bracket for a sub... any reccomendations there? All advice appreciated in advance... cheers.

nonny Posted March 26, 2007 Author Posted March 26, 2007 Eastwood hifi have a special on some yamaha speakers at your budget level.http://www.eastwoodhifi.com.au/yam_speakers.htm Yeh mate thanks for that, only thing is these speakers must be black in colour as my entire room/setup is dark wood or metal frame... cherry colour would just look disgusting next to the current stuff... otherwise that would be a winner. Anyone know of any other places that do the Yammy speakers (in black) for the same price!? I've been around a few JB Hifis on the weekend and they were all pretty much RRP before haggling. Failing that are Steinman labs any good? They were the other sets I was looking at on ebay through Aussie Hifi.
