Most manufacturers (all?) offer built in hd tuners with their widescreen tv's these days.Panasonic, pioneer, lg, hitachi etc.

I would not use the fact that the samsung has a hd tuner inbuilt as my sole reason for buying the samsung.

Most important factor is to let your eyes decide.

oh i'm not saying that it is my sole reason, i guess as a package in terms of features and cost is involved. i'm really just after a cheapish solution nothing flash just a hd unit with built in hd stb that allows me to plug my laptop in to play movies and so forth.

I have personally taken a look at the unit and it looks quite good in my eyes. I have not thought about lg and what are peoples thoughts of samsung anf lg which appears to be better.

samasung offer a 2year warranty on their plasma's which is a bonus also comapred to 1year given by other makers.

I got mine (with "x" at the end of the model name) for $1990 at Good Guys at Rockdale last Thursday night, they had one left I think.

Had it setup and currently running it in now, i was also look at Panasonic as well but I reckon the quality is just as good as the Panny 42" 600a and I was surprised the quality of the Plasmas nowadays.

did you end up getting extended warranty on the unit or did you think th 2years would be enough for you?

Local add in today's Northside Chronical (Brisbane Northside) on p27, Clive Anthony's Home Show add (only says Carseldine store) has under home entertainment:

"Samsung 106cm Plasma TV with Built In High Definition Tuner $1999"

The top of the add also says "Take it home today! Nothing to pay for 400 days! No deposit, no interest & no repayments until 2008"

Looks like this unit is dropping in price more and more which is a good thing for me  I wasn't sure if i should go for the Samsung LCD or this plasma but the plasma appears to be cheaper than the LCD thus me inquiring about it here.

im pretty sure there is a new model coming out in april/may, that maybe y the prices are dropping still awsome value for money!

lamu

i guess it doesn't bother me that a new one will come out shortly, as this will always occur and theres ntohing anyone can do about it. as long as i'm happy wiht the unit and can get it at a good price then i'll be over the moon.

Ive got the 50inch version of the one you are looking at. The xbox360 and PS3 look awesome. Try and get a plasma that has 1366 x 768 res at least.

Id go the 40 inch Samsung R40 LCD over the 42inch plasma in samsung.

Can i ask your reasons why you would go for the lcd over the plasma? the lcd is good as it has a three year warranty over the 2years on the plasma which may save me buying extended warranty

It comes with 2 years manafacturer's warranty, I bought it using gold credit card so I get 3 years in total. Not really fussed at this price.

Screen burn on the Samsung plasma's are bad. My opinion is based on owning a 42inch SD Panasonic 42inch plasma and never had a single problem with screen burn.

The 50inch plasma I have is terrible, to the point if i watch a blu ray movie with 2:40 ratio the screen burn from the black borders takes around 30mins to go away. I can do a screen burn reduction on it, but its still there for awile.

Maybe thats the difference from HD to SD, but you think it shouldnt matter.

Im lucky anyway. My 50inch samsung is playing up before the 2 weeks and samsung are replacing with the new model when its out. I also have the option to change to the 46inch 1080p lcd, though I have to pay the difference.

damn you got a pretty good deal. just wondering if you know how much it would have cost you if you wanted to get extended warranty? i've spoken to a few places and they say the price you got it for is below there cost.

I wasn''t paying much attention caused I didn't want it, but I remembered they said around $160 ish for additional year and $250 for 2 years. Probably you can negotiate on that now. Probably cheaper this week already.
