The Fifth Element On Hd-dvd

Recommended Posts

Anyone notice this post in the Insiders thread:

Amir,

Will the "The Fifth Element" HD DVD, one can see on the http://www.thisishddvd.com/ website (from the bottom left corner it is three rows up and one to the right), be a new VC1 encoding? Is it a european Fox/Pathe release?

Yes, it is the Europe release. And yes, it is a new VC-1 encode. I have not seen it but have been told it is better than the MPEG-2 BD version.

Yes, this movie is terrific, and will also be great for showing off both sound and visual eye candy. Also great to hear that they won't be botching it up as badly as the BluRay version. The 1080i broadcast in the US of the fifth element was much better than the BD copy.

I only responded quickly to this thread at first, because I was at work.

I am very very excited about this.

The Fifth Element was the first DVD I ever bought (blind buy based on Bruce Willis + Milo Jovovich on the cover  ).

Every time I order from Amazon I am tempted to purchase the BD version, but have held back due to the crappy reviews.

Lets hope they make this one a reference transfer.

Andrew.

According to Amir, the VC1 encode being used is supposed to be very nice.
