Groover ! Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I didn't think I would ever say this about a LG product (although its made by Homecast) but Ill give credit where credit is due. After 2 early firmware upgrades this box IMHO still has the best PQ and reliability. I haven't had one problem with it. After waiting so long for the Toppy 7000 it really was a little disappointing in the PQ area, as was the Sony, Strong and Teac . The Toshiba came close but after going through 3 units in 2 weeks I stuck with the LG. The only thing that lets the LG down is it doesn't have resume play and its not a true twin tuner. Now that the LG is out of warranty watch it break down !

Looks like the Toppy is a keeper for you (I saw your ad for the Teac) which is good news. Once you get used to having a pvr you'll never look back. One day we may just get one which does everything that we want.........................only Id like to be around to see it
Foggy Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I had the opportunity to see the HD Toppy PVR on the weekend, and you're right Angelo, the PQ isn't up to the AUSID or even the Teac STB's. If the LG PQ is as good as those two, then that is a very good thing.... so long as it doesn't die!

If the LG PQ is as good as those two, then that is a very good thing.... so long as it doesn't die! Hey Foggy Was the Topfield cabled up on HDMI? I've had the AUSID, the LG and the Topfield and the Topfield is the pick of the bunch on PQ for me. The contrast, brightness and colours on the Topfield were vibrant and all over the other two when I initially fired it up on Friday on the Fuji 42US, and I had to dial back the settings as opposed to dialling up the settings on the others to get a lifelike result. I've still got the AUSID and fired the two up side by side to make sure I wasn't just telling myself nice things to justify the purchase, and my wife wandered past to watch and without knowing which was which said "that one is much better than the other one" when the Topfield was on. gregj23
Foggy Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Yes Greg, it was connected via HDMI to an NEC 50" plasma. I thought the PQ on the Toppy was very soft compared to the AUSID and the Teac HD-B820, and I also felt that the colours were a little oversaturated on the Toppy.

I had both and the LG PVR has a far better picture on it. Personally as a stand alone HD STB you cant go past the Ausid.
diesel Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 There's some good pricing at the moment - new model must be around the corner... FYI, was in HN Kawana Waters (Sunny Coast QLD) this a.m, and they have a stack of 5402 for $499-, and a stack of 5403 for $599-. I asked how long at this price, and was told 'mate, not long, so don't miss out' (surprise surprise !!!).
andym Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 There's some good pricing at the moment ... Yes there is. Too good to ignore for me. Just picked one up for $629 @ Myer and so far so good . Had my heart set on the toppy 7000, but with the problems its having ATM and the conflicting remotes issue with the 5000 sealed the deal.
