croops Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 This topic could go into a number of forums but I thort you guys might have a better idea. At the moment my PS3 is connected via HDMI into the 2nd HDMI port in my Denon 2807 - the DVD player uses the other one. The AVR then outputs the video signal to the TV's HDMI 1 port (Sony Bravia X)... This is all well and good cept the DVD and PS3 both share the HDMI 1 when I select an input on the TV - not ideal coz I wanna have a different user setting for the PS3. Is there any way to set up a different input for the PS3? The only way I can think of is if the PS3 HDMI goes directly into the HDMI 2 port on the TV and i use an optical out into the AVR for audio. Kinda annoying coz it means I gotta get yet another cable and more mucking around with the AVR.
Bodalenko Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 If you want seperate settings on the X series for the PS3 and the DVD you'll have to connect both the AVR and PS3 or DVD seperately to the display. I can't remember if the 2807 is an upscaler or not. I'd keep the PS3 connected via HDMI to the Amp to get the enhanced audio features of Blu-ray. And they are certainly enhanced. I have a similar setup using a lend 4306 denon untill my A11 arrives. Truthfully though I can't really see why you would need to customize the settings seperately for the DVD and PS3. Love the black bezel on your X series. Just wondering what it cost you? Was it hard to change over? Glad to hear your experience with U&S Audio was pleasurable. I've been buying stuff from Mark and Steve for years now and I agree they are an excellent crew to deal with for HT stuff. Certainly know their Denon gear.

To answer your questions: 1. I want to customise the settings for the two inputs because from I've read on the AVS Forums, there are definite diffenreces in screen calibration for the 2 inputs. Differences in colour, game mode etc... 2. Is there a difference in audio quality from HDMI (1.2 or 1.1 for the Denon) to Digital Optical out? 3. The black bezel was slightly less than RRP as I got it when I made the purchase of my whole system... all I could get was about $50 off... definetly worth the investment as I was gonna wait for the XBR3 to hit AU but it still hasn't arrived. 4. The change over was very easy but next time I'll use a power drill as there are a LOT of screws to remove and replace! 5. Yep Mark is very switched on and knows his stuff!
Bodalenko Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Using 'Custom' you can definitely fine tune any input into the X series, but as I said keep the PS3 hooked up to the Denon so that you get the enhanced sound features used in BR movies. Via HDMI you can definitely input 7.1 into you amp if the BD is encoded with it and Uncompressed Digital. With optical I'm pretty sure the enhanced sound features aren't available and you get the standard lower bit rate DD or DTS what ever the case may be. I think that's right but if it's not never fear someone will correct it. Either way the PS3, Denon and X series are perfectly matched. Really must look at getting a black bezel. They should have been avaiable as a N/C option.
