franin Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I've recentley experciened a blinking effect through my ps3.What it is (It only happens on HDMI) the picture and the audio go off and on for around 3 secs. It's only happened to me on the new release films like casino royale and crank.Casino Royale happened in the beginning when james bond did his famous turn to shoot. It only happens once throughout the film, but it's known to happen on the ps3.It happened to my mate also who had a film called the marine, which also was a new release but his other ones which were the old movies transfered to blu-ray, nothing at all. He has had his Ps3 much longer than mine and this is the first time he has expereced this also.He told me it has to do something with the new releases (eg. buffering information-but i really cannot comment on that as I don't know). I borrowed some of his (Like stealth, underworld and S.W.A.T) no blinking at all.Has anyone else experinced this? it's intresting to see if anyone else experinced this blinking effect.
momaw Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Franin, I can tell you when I watched Crank the whole way through, nothing like this happened.
franin Posted March 25, 2007 Author Posted March 25, 2007 it happened only once on crank also. 3/4 of the way and then it's all fine.Never happened to me in any other blu-rays but those two.I will watch Monster House tomorrow night and will see if it happens again. Cheers momaw!
AndrewW Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I've watched about 6 BD titles on the PS3, and have not seen this once. I was getting a few sparkles last night though, which pisses me off after buying reasonably expensive "quality" cables (ie not $15 MSY specials). Andrew. edit: it only happened 3 times that I noticed, but it was noticeable
franin Posted March 25, 2007 Author Posted March 25, 2007 I paid $85.00 for a Kordz Hdmi cable for the ps3 and it is annoying that the unit has this so-called problem.Im about to upgrade to 1.6 but I don't think there is any hdmi issue fix on that update.

betty boop Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 andrews sparkles sound like a hdmi cable issue but the loss of audio video in a blink I doubt would be due to hdmi - you'd get an hdmi error flash on screen otherwise either from display or player. sounds to me a source issue. buffering or the like you mention quite likely. interesting . hope the 1.6 update helps you out
franin Posted March 25, 2007 Author Posted March 25, 2007 this might help Mine does'nt do that exactly. The hdmi turns off for 3 sec then back on and thats it for those two particuilar movies.I guess i would not call that a blinking issue due to the fact that it doesn't blink as what it did on that you tube film. That blinked heaps.my amp and projector are both HDCP compliant, so god knows. And the other films as I mentioned didn't have that fault at all.

franin Posted March 25, 2007 Author Posted March 25, 2007 nah! Just kept watching.Did'nt bother me.By the way have do you have you ps3 hooked up.Mine goes throught the amp then out to projector.
Gregory Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Hi Do you guys know if you can connect both the composite cable and HDMI to ps3 at the same time? My Onkyo TX-DS575 receiver has digital optical input, but requires an analogue connection at the same time. I was thinking of connecting the HDMI to my SONY wega and the composite cable to the receiver so I get 5.1 sound. Any ideas? Greg

I'm going HDMI to the Yammy and then HDMI-DVI to the Plasma Panel. No issues whatsoever on the HDMI stuff with the PS3, the HD-E1 or the Oppo HD981

No issues whatsoever on the HDMI stuff with the PS3, the HD-E1 or the Oppo HD981 same, I don't have an issue with the toshiba hd-a1 or my denon. My mate has the Yammy and an infocus projetor and he has experienced it also.He has upgraded to 1.6 recentley and he said hasn't seen any since, but he is waiting for the next batch of blu-rays to try it out.

franin Posted March 25, 2007 Author Posted March 25, 2007 Just updated mine to version 1.6, hopefully this works. This guy on the avs forums said the way he found to work was turn the amp on first and projector than the ps3.Ever since that he has no problems at all.Might as well give it a go.
Luis Syphur Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I've really only done the initial set up for the PS3 with the Bluray (been playing games), but I bought one dick that had decent reviews, that would be Mission Impossible: 3 (can't stand the film, but thought it might be a good reference disk). When scanning through it I haven't been very impressed with what I've seen. Some bits look grainy, others flicker slightly (espesially in the Vatican party scene). Like I said I haven't really played with this much and most of the settings are still on automatic, but has anyone else noticed this or what set up do others have? I have the PS3 via HDMI into a Philips 42PF9831 LCD TV, sound is optical to my Yamaha amp, but that isn't a problem. Thanks in advance.
