Thingme Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Sorry, I couldn't find anything about this on a quick search. (1) My controller which came with the PS3 is said to have a SixAxis tilt mechanism. A guy in the shop said I have to enable the feature to use it. There is nothing in the manual on "enabling" SixAxis tilting. Is it always on? I found nothing in a game to turn it on. The game I speak of is "Call of Duty 3". I am in this game above which offers a tutorial during the early stages and I have to wobble the SixAxis controller to wrestle this guy. I always lose because the wobble/tilt doesn't do anything. (2) Also, the manual on page 3, says if I press the triangle button in the PS3 setup screens, I get to see more options menus. For me, the triangle button in these setup screens does nothing. I have updated to the latest firmware. Is my PS3 faulty? Any advice?
AndrewW Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Are you sure COD3 supports the motion sensing ? I know that in the Motorstorm demo there is a menu option to enable it, and then it works fine (for me anyway). Maybe try downloading this demo and see if it works for you. At least you will know if the problem is the controller or not then. Cheers, Andrew.

The last firmware upgrade changed the way a few of the menu options work so it is possible the instructions in the manual are no longer valid. My understanding is the motion control is always on - could be wrong though. I have this game but have yet to play it. The IGN review does say that it is quite buggy though. Have you tried reseting the console and performing the action again? I will give the game a go now and report back.
momaw Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 At the very beginning you have to use the "tilt" to bash open a crate? Did that work for you? Ok got to the part you are talking about. Mine is working as it is supposed to. Stupid question, in the game settings for the game itself, you do have tilt turned on?

momaw Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Mo what do you think of COD3? From what you've had a go of so far.Mil. he he, I think it is identical to the 360 version (except the sixaxis shake feature which works a bit better). Which is to say a pretty good game with some shortcomings. As far as FPS WWII games goes it is alot of fun. The only real probs are unskippable cutscences (and everytime you load from a save point it forces you to endure that campaigns intro again) and some controller issues (I don't like the button layout i.e the trigger should, you know, be the fire button and the grenade button is too easily hit by accident). If you can get past this, it is worth playing. I just hope it's a little longer than COD2, but somehow I doubt it.
Thingme Posted March 24, 2007 Author Posted March 24, 2007 Yes, I have TILT turned on in the game. Somehow, I managed to get that machine gun from the box. I'm not sure the SixAxis movement did the trick or what it was. On my first mission I am in the ruined house and I go through this doorway where I am confronted with a kraut who causes my firearm to drop to the floor. The game suggests I wiggle the controller to fight this guy. I have been through that doorway two dozen times and the outcome is no different each time, as I have to repeat the scene over and over. This has become a big turn-off for me in COD3. I guess I never liked Action/FPS games and I have pretty much had it with this one. Gimme an Oblivion style game every time. I think I'll start it from the beginning and see if that makes any difference. But why won't that Triangle button work in the XrossMediaBar screen? Maybe I'm supposed to have some content on a memory stick or the like for it to work? And it probably has nothing to do with some items like the setup of the controller? Lots to learn, I suppose.

Like I said the new firmware has probably changed that functionality. Not sure what to suggest as it works fine on mine
Thingme Posted March 24, 2007 Author Posted March 24, 2007 Like I said the new firmware has probably changed that functionality. Not sure what to suggest as it works fine on mine Okay. So I'm on Point, into that house. I wiggle the controller and the rifle flashes side to side so I guess the SixAxis wiggle thing is working. I have been through that doorway another dozen times. BTW, Easy Level was chosen for the game. On one of these wrestles with the hidden kraut, I got the message to use the triangle key to attack, but still died. Any other time wiggling the controller has quickly got me dead. I have been thrashing around with that controller so many times and with such violence as to raise quite a sweat. All I can say is that COD3 is one difficult game. It just won't let me advance past this most powerful fellow waiting to ambush me in that other room. Is the whole of COD3 so hard? If it is then I don't want to play any more.

Since it seems the controller is working, I suggest, when you go through the door, instead of shaking it, hold it more like a steering wheel and turn it left to right quickly. You should find it easier to access the buttons when prompted. Beating him is determined by how quickly you press the button when he is knocked down. Too slow and he gets back up. Hope this helps. Afterwards you only have to worry about not getting shot to death (as it should be). Maybe try Resistance. my review is here
Thingme Posted March 24, 2007 Author Posted March 24, 2007 Nope. He wrestles and then gets me with his rifle butt every time. I do use the controller like a steering wheel with violent jerks clockwise and counter clockwise. I start hammering the triangle button at the same time. "When he is knocked down"? He never gets knocked down. I have tried so may different motions on that controller. He never gets knocked down. This is getting very weird indeed.

The only thing I can think of then is to go into the game menu and turn the tilt option off. Presumably that will change the "wrestle" match to you having to alternate between pressing the trigger buttons like on the 360 version. Given the trouble you are having it might be best to disable tilt for this game.
Thingme Posted March 24, 2007 Author Posted March 24, 2007 SUCCESS! Instead of holding the controller in both hands, I was able to get more rapid motion by grasping the thing wholly in the left hand, wrapping the fingers around underneath between the triggers with the thumb going down the back. Still with a wristy steering wheel rotation motion though. Using the right finger on the triangle and square buttons when the time came, I finished him orf. Momaw, thanks for your advice. Gawd it was tough though.

Gawd it was tough though. Wohoo As I said, I have not had to do this again so it should be smooth sailing now. I was gonna suggest the onehanded twist the wrist rapidly approach but it is hard to get the button hit that way
Thingme Posted March 24, 2007 Author Posted March 24, 2007 A bit of action followed, I rode the tank targetting villains and then I had to traverse that short tunnel and come out the other side. Plenty of baddies to shoot, however my game then froze. There was nothing I could do except eject the disk and turn the power orf at the back. What was I supposed to do in these circumstances? There was nothing that I did that produced a PS3 reset. Power orf was the final and only effective solution. Does this sort of thing happen often?
momaw Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 So far I have not had a single glitch (the same could not be said for my 360 version which I had to return as faulty), however from the IGN review: The constant glitches and freeze-ups, however, are downright deplorable. In the 10 hours we spent with the single-player campaign, we had to restart a checkpoint five to six times because certain flags wouldn't activate (i.e., doors that were supposed to open didn't, walls that were supposed to break wouldn't, and characters that were supposed to die couldn't).Moreover, soldiers that die on roofs or on top of tanks float in the air or clip through buildings with alarming frequency; grenades can go off in a crowd of people and do nothing but make noise and devastate no one; sound effects and other audio occasionally drop in and out, and can even stop working altogether for no reason. But worst of all, Call of Duty 3 can and will lock your PlayStation 3 up -- sometimes when quitting multiplayer, sometimes when quitting back to the XMB, and sometimes for no reason at all. before the whole game is condemned on this bleak quote Fans of Call of Duty 2 and the series in general will no doubt enjoy Call of Duty 3 (if they don't have access to another platform). It recreates the fury of World War II with a strong bravado and offers a shooting engine that makes single-player and multiplayer sessions equally fun. Sure it comes up a little short compared to the pacing and overall level design of COD2, but the real crime here is found with all the glitches and other technical problems that make the Normandy Breakout feel more like the Normandy Lockup. It's really too bad, because considering how good it is despite all of its problems, imagine how great it could have been without them.
Thingme Posted March 24, 2007 Author Posted March 24, 2007 WOW! I suppose I will soldier on, pun intended. But I can't wait fot the PS3 version of Oblivion. It is supposed to have the Knights of the Nine rolled into it. It's a pity that "Shivering Isles" the expansion, will not be included. Perhaps, a future re-issue will include the lot.

Have you checked out Enchanted Arms. It looks nice. am considering it. I did oblivion on the 360, so will skip it on PS3.
Thingme Posted March 24, 2007 Author Posted March 24, 2007 No, dunno Enchanted Arms but will look into it. I actually much prefer the PC version of Oblivion. It allows some cheats but the main thing is modding. Oblivion is a fantastic modder's game and it really is not very good (if you've played it before) until all one's favourite mods are added. I run about thirty to forty of them as a rule, in addition to the official Bethesda plug-ins. And gimme keyboard control any time over these game pads. You can do so much more with a keyboard. Having said that, I did buy the PS3 for games, but also to play Blu-ray movies on when I can get hold of a few.
