sulimo Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Already. Looks like Apple TV got a whole lot more interesting. http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthrea...mp;pagenumber=1 Now the question for me is how easy would it be for a non-Mac owner to implement this hack. I know I can mount at least some Mac drives on my PC, but beyond that I don't know.

You should be able to do it through linux (a live CD like ubuntu, etc. should do the job) if it can't be done through windows.
Neon Kitten Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Looks like Apple TV got a whole lot more interesting. Not interesting enough. For close to $200 less, I got a network media player that plays Xvid out of the box. No hacking required. Apple TV has its niche, but it's a pointless purchase for those who mainly use Xvid/Divx.

DJY Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Buy a mac mini instead of doing the hack! My Mac mini plugged into my Sony Bravia X gives me more options, versatility, and everything (plus more) that the AppleTV does. Gives me a nice little matching hub to - to plug into my home network! I use VLC to view most things - and the Apple remote works with it as well!
