Can get my hands on the old computer server racks from work and was thinking that one might make a good rack for my Audio gear. Might need to paint the sides to change it from the cream colour but the glass lockable doors look the part.

Anyone gone down this path that can let me know the fors and against before I go to the trouble of buying one..

If you can 'get your hands on' another one I would consider parting with a suitable fee for your efforts... please PM with a pic or two if interested...

Yes, I've done it. Check the link to my blog in my sig for more info.

You should be aware of the cost of shelves though, they can get quite pricey... but hopefully you'll be able to snare a few from your work like you're doing with the racks.

I find the two power strips running vertically at the rear to be extremely useful.

We use similar racks for broadcast equipment so it's really just a matter of aesthetics.

Agreed, I'm 'dressing up' my rack with some nice laminated timber boards. This will help acoustically by keeping the equipment noise floor down, as well as helping it pass the WAF test. Mine is a 45RU rack which is about 2.1m high, I screwed some castors with soft rubber edging on the wheels to improve accessibility whenever I want to tinker.

I've got a computer rack for my equipment too. It's an open rack with no sides or font, and the cable runs down the side hide all the mess.

Mine is also over 2 metres high and I've put all the shelves up high so that the little ones cannot touch any of the gear in the rack.

It actually looks pretty good and the wife likes it so it was a big win, but I am sure if it was in the lounge rooom she would have a fit.

Looking into this option as well. Thinking of getting something from Server Racks Australia. Should be equivalent to a quality AV rack from someone else. And it keeps things neat and tidy and will allow mounting of my Compaq server and network gear.
