vapoureyes Posted March 22, 2007 Share Posted March 22, 2007 Hi All I would appreciate any comments/feedback from owners of the Hitachi 55PD8800TA 55" plasma who have used it connected to a PC in a 'home theatre' environment. Any problems or issues relating to overscan, clarity of text and images, horizontal/vertical scaling (flicker) problems, etc? My current HTPC has an ATI 9600 Pro graphic card, but I'm prepared to upgrade to something better if required. If anyone can suggest any 50+" displays that would also be suitable (other than RP, due to space issues) that would be very welcome. Thanks for any reply. Big W Posted March 24, 2007 Share Posted March 24, 2007 I've had a mate use a high-end notebook connect to my 55" Hitachi panel (I think it was DVI to HDMI via a cable & then 2xRCA audio cables). No issues, easy to get running. It did take him about 5 mins of him changing resolution settings on the notebook. We used the panel to display IE5.5 whilst surfing the www. Not as good as my LCD PC monitor, but still very good. And the convenience would be nice to have on an ongoing basis (just can't afford the notebook). We then watched a couple of pre-record DivX shows. We were sitting approx 3m back from it at which point it was very clear Vs being 30cm in front of it. Was there any significant amount of overscan i.e cutting off desktop icons, start/taskbar when used with the notebook? Do you recall what resolution you were using? I'm assuming there would also be some gain in clarity with a more powerful graphic card - the fact that it looked good connected to a notebook is encouraging.
