Sambo90 Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Letterman has no TEN watermark here in Adelaide now.
ckent Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 You know Ten HD used to have a unique watermark, in the upper right corner? It was a smaller semicircle sticking out from under the right-hand-side with "HD" written in a column, I believe. That was back in 2001-2002. That's when they used to play HD-only ads, which were different ads to SD, but upconverted ones that were purely widescreen sources. CK.
anthonysimilion Posted March 24, 2007 Author Posted March 24, 2007 Matilda is on now, 10 HDno logo in Adelaide
digitalj Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Matilda is on now, 10 HDno logo in Adelaide Watermark on 12 in Sydney
des Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 No Watermark here, But anyone noticed TEN HD everytime it returns from addbreak or goes to addbreak same when it flicked to the ten movies promo just then the sound drops out for a bit then comes back. Did Ten Squish the credits in Sydney since they have the watermark they can do anything?

The HD channel of TEN has been flicking in and out of ads for years, it's the exact same thing with 9 HD
natxp2006 Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 The watermark seems to be gone again in Brisbane, maybe they're testing it out one city at a time since it appeared in Adelaide and when it disapeared it reappeared here, now its gone and it's appeared down in Sydney? The old Ten PRG logo is back on Ch12. (From what I saw of Charlie's Angel's just then)
Neon Kitten Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 No Watermark here, But anyone noticed TEN HD everytime it returns from addbreak or goes to addbreak same when it flicked to the ten movies promo just then the sound drops out for a bit then comes back. I noticed that when experimenting with capturing and editing Medium off the HD channel during the week. Looked at frame by frame, whatever they're switching into causes not only an interruption in the Dolby Digital stream, but also a one-frame picture glitch (noticed on their white-screen show-title cards before each ad break).
anthonysimilion Posted March 26, 2007 Author Posted March 26, 2007 The new HD watermark (and playout system) is now in Perth. And it is thick! At least with SD it had soft edges - blame HD for having so much definition, the edges are so well defined! Also, it is too bright.
abdelrm Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 HD watermark has disappeared once the last segment of Supernatural came back and back to the old RPG EDIT: using old watermark for Cops, strange? EDIT: Audio is out of sink seems to improve during ads
LBM Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Oh well, I have now got all of House, Smallville and Supernatural. Was nice knowing you Ten.
GoForMoe Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 EDIT: using old watermark for Cops, strange? That is because it is an upconvert. Everyone knew Ten would start watermarking HD eventually, but it is a small price to pay for the amount of effort they are putting in to HD (with Sport, Letterman, etc.)
davmel Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 HD watermark was shown today in Melbourne during Totally Wild. Looks like it will be shown primetime nationwide from tonight. Thanks for nothing Channel TEN.

Wake up and smell the coffee - every other network is water marking their HD. Ten is spending in the vicinity of $24Million dollars upgrading their HD capability and will be doing High Definition better than any other broadcaster in the country with numerous broadcasting firsts and you have the audacity* to bag them because they brand it. . . Pull ya head in. I have every right to complain that an ugly watermark is distracting from my enjoyment of the programming. If channel TEN are stupid enough to improve the visual quality of their programming and then ruin it with a poorly placed hideous watermark then they deserve to receive abuse. If you were going to paint a Mona Lisa you wouldn't stamp a 'Made in France' mark on her forehead!
minchjp Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Ten is spending in the vicinity of $24Million dollars upgrading their HD capability What is your source?
anthonysimilion Posted March 27, 2007 Author Posted March 27, 2007 Wake up and smell the coffee - every other network is water marking their HD. I truly applaud TEN's enthusiasm and initiative with HD - it's clear they're committed to HD. HD Watermarks are going that way, yes, but PLEASE - IN THE 16:9 SAFE AREA! (bottom right hand corner) Also, less bright! If TEN could copy CBS' or ABC's (US) watermark, that would be much better.
Neon Kitten Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 (Cops) That is because it is an upconvert. That actually puzzles me, too, as a closet Cops fan In the US Cops was the first reality show to be shot in HD, and has been for some time now. When Ten put it into the MOnday night slot they initially listed it as HD for a couple of weeks (it wasn't) and then abandoned that. The question is, why are they not sourcing HD tapes of that show? They're available, and the season they're showing was shot in HD.
GoForMoe Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 If TEN could copy CBS' or ABC's (US) watermark, that would be much better. I quite liked the one they used for the F1s, that, 16:9 safe and a bit more transparent would be great imo.
DrP Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Channel Ten posts 12pc profit dropChannel Ten has posted a 12 per cent drop in half-yearly profits as a result of higher costs in the television industry. The network says profit after tax was almost $38 million for the six months to February. ... Network Ten's parent company, Canwest, has put the company up for sale. full article... Food for thought.
LBM Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 I can see how watermarking will add market share back ... Why don't they listen to what people want, perhaps then they might make a profit.
des Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Watermark is on Melbourne to! It does seem its more brighter on SD then it uset to be.
LBM Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 What is going on at Ten? Every time I check they are doing something different. The Bold and the Beautiful had the HUGE watermark as did the second half of Totally Wild, the 5:30pm News had the newer version and the late News didn't. Every other show has had the old one since and some HD is clean. Why not simply scrap the idea before it is too late? Remove the watermark and ADVERTISE it as a positive.
